finally started my first build...

this will be a a long build as I do not have much time to build...

however it all started with this:

a piece of a fir tree blown away by a storm. it was in my fathers farm, well protected, for at least 30 years... reading all your building threads I thought "lets have a closer look" and the decision was - a partscaster

my dear friend and band mate Christoph has all the wood working tools and machines, so today we started

the idea of a one piece body did not work as the wood was not staight...

Looks nice to me! It'll really mean something to have a guitar made of a tree that you know it's history...

Suggestion nick.s ............... resize your pictures to 640 pixels wide before you post them here. If you continue to add more pictures that size (2048x1536) it will become next to impossible for anyone on dial-up to see them.

That is a nice looking piece of wood.

Working with wood that you the history of is cool,, What kind of fir is that?? Where I live there's White Fir and Douglas Fir. The White fir is very soft and the Douglas Fir can be excellent to work with beautiful reds and golds.
By the way, it looks like you have nice shop to work in,, are you a furniture builder by trade?

Looks very nice.

If I remember right, Doug fir (pseudotsuga) is not a real 'fir' and does not occur naturally outside North America. Kinda looks like grand fir, but that's not an Eastern Hemisphere either.

Jack's right, but those pictures are neat.

One word of caution. One build leads to 2,2 to 3,3 to 4
I think it's a sickness
Be very careful

Seems to me that pine dried that long would be fine for Telecasters, also known as Pinecasters in these parts.

Wow, another swiss build ! I was dreaming of this and yours looks promising

This is especially interesting for me as we can share information about the products we find here (Obi, Migros, Coop..)

Volketswil ? I know someone there who was very fond on sound engineering, he seems to be at ETH now.

Is that a crack on #1? And is that gonna cause a problem with the neck? Hope not...

I really like the way the grain lined up on #2.

Wow... I see more and more of these threads and I wish I had wood-working tools.

This guitar is going to be GORGEOUS! What are the finish plans?

it is not a crack. it is more a "mistake by nature". just a dark line grown into the wood... should definitely not affect the build...

maybe a bit early but one of them will get baja electronics that I got from TDPRI member "nokaster" from belgium. and the other most probably CS nocasters. both will get MIM '50s Esquire Necks.

I have not decided how to finish them... since the grain is very nice it will probably be natural for one of them.

a long way to go...

I will definitely update as I progress...

Thanks, Nick

That grain is just mesmerizing, absolutely beautiful.

Update

Not too much of progress…
However, I had some time last night for the routing and sanding of the shape. One little accident with Number one in the area of the neck pocket, otherwise no problems…

Pictures to share of Number one

that mistake in number one should be much of a problem, because most of the chip will be routed away with the neck pocket.
