roy buchanan rules

This morning on Sirius Roy Buchanan was sandwiched between Muddy Waters and BB King, followed by SRV, Albert Collins, and John Mayall. Roy smoked them all!

Roy had more soul in a few notes than anyone I have ever heard. IMO, Roy was Mr.Telecaster. He was, and still is an inspiration. God Bless you Roy !

I feel the same way, and besides he was one of very few guitar players that could call himself a musical stylist/inventor.

It probably does , but why shouldn't one be allowed to praise one's favorite, even if the name is Roy Buchanan? People do it all the time when it comes to Danny Gatton, Scotty Anderson, Vince Gill, Brad Paisley, Redd Volkaert, James Burton, Steve Cropper etc. etc. without anyone taking offence...

Skydog, you should have said that "in your humble opinion", Roy smoked them all...Hee, hee!

Yep!

The first few notes of this alone IMHO are credit to his ability.

Roy showed no emotion while he played. It all poured out through his hands.

My all time favorite non hard rock player.

That was good alright. My current favorite player is Gary Moore by a wide margin. Now if he'd only get rid of that stupid '58 Les Paul an buy himself a '50 Broadcaster and a new Ferarri......

Too right skyboltone, someone posted a You tube clip of Gary Moore playing a Telecaster. He sure can make a guitar sing. If I remember right he was a Strat player until he got his Blues thing going and switched to the Les Paul, I liked him in Thin Lizzy.

IIRC he got the LP from Peter Green about in the '70s sometime. Green didn't like the neck and Gary paid him almost nothing for it. Check Youtube and search Gary Moore and BB King togeather. Unbelievable!

Gary just sold the LP to pay expenses for a tour that didn't happen (he injured his hand, and had to cover expenses). Man, life of a musician.....can be great or miserable.

You're right Strat64. I forgot. I read the recent Vintage Guitar interview where he talked about that. Anyway, sorry sorry sorry for the thread theft, back to Roy!

You know, I normally don't like statements like that, saying one is better than the other as if music were a competition. Sometimes I'm in the mood to hear John Mayall, other times Muddy.

But you're absolutely right: Roy smoked them all!

Him and Keith Richards are the people who made me want to buy a Telecaster.

James Burton is the reason why I want a pink paisely...
