I love that first one, has sort of a Gibson vibe to it. Not a bad price either. Too bad I'd have to play it upside down.

Oak?

I was thinking it was cedar when I looked at the pic, but I guess that would have had some knobs in it.

Ever used cedar?

sorry for not being objective, but of all the guitars the Rices' have built, I'm kinda partial to this one - The Beachcaster :)

I have learned it is best for my financial well-being to stay away from the Rice page. Way too many goodies hanging around there. And I am a sucker for a Tele shape covered with a thin white finish and a matte black scratchplate

My favorite remains old #047 - because it is mine!

Not when you're surrounded by them! I'm having serious troubles not keeping #086 and selling my G&L, Music Man, Fender, and Univox...I've already kept enough of the guitars to be able to resist the urge (mostly).

Thank you! I posted this over on TGP:

The design is my fiancée's that I modified and had a hand in and we built it over the last 2 1/2 years (she bought the wood in August 2005). It's everything I've ever wanted in a mandolin and sounds fantastic through the Deluxe Reverb. It has all the response of my old 1917 Lyon and Healy but with a more consistent tone throughout it's range and a million times more comfortable to play.

Better than memories...

The Oscar Schmidt (Washburn lowline) electric/acoustic mando is pretty good for cheap. I've played mine through a '72 Deluxe Reverb, VOX AD30VT, DR Z 6545, Crate G-15, Peavey 1x12" (don't remember the model, but I've been using it for 4 years...), and the Fender wins by a long shot. Most guitar amps with a decent clean tone can be EQ'd for mando.

and here's my favorite, #79

Lollar Charlie Christian and Vintage T, fat neck, incredible stain and finish.

I wanted to wiat until the honeymoon was about over to write. I've been playing it for about 6 weeks now, and it's the best electric guitar I've owned in almost 40 years of playing. Rich and Chris are a great team to deal with. This guitar has sustain, touch sensitivity, and mojo in abundance. My only regret is that I didn't find these guys sooner. Highly recommended!
