69 Tele stock wire source?
I'm restoring a 69 Tele that's been through many different wiring and pickup setups over the years. I have most all the original hardware but the wiring has been swapped so many times it's a mess. Anyone know a source for the period-correct plastic covered colored wiring? I believe mine originally had a combination of yellow, white and black plastic covered wire.
Also, if anyone has a photo of the switchplate wiring of a virgin 69 for reference that would be a big help. Thanks- GeorgeO Last edited by georgeo; October 27th, 2007 at 11:48 PM. Reason: mistake on Title |

This is a pic of the control plate assy of my '69 Tele. It didn't have any wires grounded to the volume pot at the time but this section is mostly unaltered. There've been a lot of pickups living in this guitar though.
![]() As you can see, mine came with cloth insulated wires. They're more flexible than the tinned stuff that StewMcDonalds sells. Someone said that Allparts might sell some of the untinned kind. |

Thanks - Great photos guys.
Pete - did your Tele originally have cloth-covered pickup wires as well? AC50 - I don't see two sets of pickup wires coming into the switchplate cavity. Is that an Esquire? Thanks again! GeorgeO |

Sorry GeorgeO,
No its a tele.... I purchased the tele and when I recieved it the neck p/up was dead, so I sent it for a rewind. Forgot I took the pic then and not prior to the removal of the p/up... I have to do another photo, so I can post them if you like. |

Until I came to TDPRI, I assumed that all '69 Telecasters came with cloth insulated wire. Seems like more of them had plastic insulation. I have no explanation. But I like cloth wire because it's easier for me to work with. Pete |
