Ask yourself, "WWBOD"? The answer, of course, is that Buck Ownes would do maple!

True, true.

But do you think BO would play an EMERALD GREEN Sparklecaster?

Bucko--if you made it, I'm sure Buck Owens (RIP) would have played it. Judging from his 60's era band uniforms, I don't think BO was afraid of bright colors. If I can vote twice, then I vote Maple (again).

Wow!

Thanks for all of the responses!

Sure seems that there is a complete lack of consensus.

Maybe I'll have to do one of each!

As luck would have it, I dinged a knee sometime over the weekend.

Hurts like the devil. I've been staying off of it and icing it tonight...trying to stay off the 15 day disabled list. Tomorrow will be a new day and I will see how it is then.

Maybe I can paint tomorrow night.

Thanks again.

Rosewood... as a matter of fact,I got so excited about it I painted the chairs to our rosewood colored dining table green sparkle. Wife was not happy nor impressed. I guess she likes maple... Take care of that knee. LPK

What a great thread !!! If I only knew half of the things you have in this post when I built the Tractorcaster, I would have days of my life back. Ha Ha Ha.
I would go with a maple neck.

If you're gonna paint the headstock, methinks both maple and rosewood will look fine. With an unpainted headstock, in rosewood, you've got a three-tone tele from the front :: emerald, rosewood, then maple. IMHO three tones in a guitar is unbalanced. But with the same colour on both the headstock and the body I reckon the colour of the fretboard is irrelevant.

If someone held a gun to my head I'd say RW - because for some obscure reason the darker coloured bodies seem to agree with the darker coloured fretboards ... to a point.

But I see your sparklecaster collection is all maple...

You'd better grin when you say that!

Now you've got me thinking about how I could make that route on the part of the headstock where it curves up toward the nut.

Ain't not part about that could be easy.

If you know what I mean.

I wonder if this has affected the way some of you think...

It is currently getting played more than any of the Buckocasters. USACG wood (the neck is shaped just like my '67 maple-cap) and it has Bill Lawrence 280 and 290 pickups. The bridge pup has become mildly microphonic and is a hoot to play. Double-bound w/ReRanch Sea Foam Green and LOTS of DEFT.

The furshlugginer knee still has me on the couch. Much better than yesterday. Another day or two of taking it easy will get me ready to go do some SPARKLING!

Cheers

Speedy recovery buck, bound sparkle headstock, if anyone can do it you can.
Maybe lots and lots of deeper and deeper cuts with that little tool you use to cut the paint before you scrape the bindings?

The "Emeraldcaster" deserves a neck worthy of the name. That means it MUST be a maple neck/board. And YES no matching headstock. If you're gonna run a maple neck/board, then doggone it, do it right. Steve? Listen to "The Emerald" by Thin Lizzy. Get inspired, then build this thing as only YOU can build it....Godspeed...

I'm thinking you enjoy hybrid picking with your middle finger on the G string... just a guess.

That's vaguely obscene - and if there's one thing I can't stand it's vagueness!

Randy is ALWAYS obscene...and that's exactly why we love him!

Steve, I hope the knee is healin' up! I'm dying to see this thang as a finished twangcaster...and even though I voted for maple, if you prefer the feel of rosewood...well, then, that's what you should go with

Kids!

Quit talking dirty!

Time to get something done on this bad boy...and I can't do it if you are misbehaving.

I've swallowed a big handful of these...for my knee...and the headache that I have suddenly acquired

and I'm going to try to get to work.

I guess the first job will be prepping the headstock for emerald paint.

BTW - while a checkerboard bound headstock WOULD be the cat's pajamas, it isn't going to happen on this one.
