Somehow plans have to tendency to change around me. Don't know how...but they do.

On that green guitar, I thought a yellow name decal would be a nice touch. Since I have had luck filling in outlines with gold and silver sharpies, I thought it would be easy to print some outlines and fill them in with yellow acrylic paint.

The plan would be to put the yellow filled outline down first, then put a clear outline on top to make it look nice.

But then I found out.

Tonight at least, I can't paint!

I could not keep that paint inside the lines. Made me feel about 4 years old again!

So I got to thinking.

I fired up Photoshop and filled some of those TRACTORCASTERs with yellow and hiked over to work and printed out a sheet.

Since it is only yellow toner, it will probably be semi-transparent on top of the green. You may have noticed, I printed several. We should be able to stack a few of them to get a nice opaque yellow.

Should be fun.

Should be interesting.

Very nice, I was hoping you'd do something like this....but tell me you're not planning on going with a PINK "Dikkers" decal?

Wow! I just read all 38 pages in one sitting. Great work - I can't believe I missed this thread.

I'm a huge fan of the sparkle stuff, and have a few kicking around and one in the works. This is one of the coolest threads I've seen anywhere in years. Thanks for sharing!

Hmm, may have to stack a few up huh? That should add a few coats of clear to get the decal to sand level I guess. No worse than trying to cover the Emerald flakes though I guess.

Hi Bucko...Well, this seems like a good time to finish up the 53' cnc build with my silk screen method for decal making. When I eventually get around to it I will post the step by step pictures to show how it's done. They come out just like the old model airplane ones. You don't need an Alps or other type of printer, just a starter kit from EZSCREEN for about $40.00, a laser or inkjet printer to make your masks,Water slide inkjet or laser paper (doesn't matter wich one, I like the laser one because the base is abit thicker) and sunlite.HERE. Use the acrylic ink for paper, not fabric. Speedball has it in every color including silver and gold !
They have how-to videos on the site also. I'm using this method for the "jersey blonde" logo. Within the next week I'll get it done!
Once you use this you will never go back!
Cheers
ED

P.S.... HERE is the link for the ink

Thanks Ed. Will be looking forward to it.

I took a quick look at the link you provided. It does look intriguing. All sorts of ideas came to mind...and not all were guitar-related.

Cheers

Oh, you know how to get right the heart of the matter, don't you!?

If I get away with two (2) of them, and that I what I am thinking it will take, it will be no thicker than the gold/silver-filled Sharpie method, and those have proven very coverupable. (I think I just invented a new word!)

Have a great day!

Steve

Oh, it'll be posted here soon enough!

I suffer from too many projects in the pipeline syndrome. As bro Serial hinted, it is also a double thinline Tele, but Bari neck w/Filtertrons and a nice fat boat Tele neck w/Nocasters.

That's cruel. You tell us this, but you don't show us!

Kids!

A package of baritone strings came in the mail today...yup right there alongside the freshly leathered-covered Baja body that I sent off to Doug Halliday a couple of weeks ago.

There were papers to grade tonight, Prom tomorrow night, but I am going to drive a stake through the heart of the Doublerubycaster THIS WEEKEND!

That is splendidly good news my friend!

After all that work? You're just going to destroy it like that?

...

Ah! I get it!

Aren't you just strings, setup and strap buttons away from done, anyway?

Bucko you are the man, but your pink comment made me think. After making my own Tele, the younger daughter said, "daddy, will you make me a guitar..."
Of course I would not say no, then I told her what color?

And she wanted... gum drop...

But are you saying that gum drop is the new beige?

Well gosh, look what I am going to try to work on.

There are only 3 fronts, 3 backs, and 3 sides waiting for me this weekend. I wonder what my chances are of getting them done?
