OK.....I blame Buckocaster51 for my disease.....

I ordered a body from ebait in Poplar but I'm afraid the specs might be off.
Here are the specs...is the neck pocket too deep?
Body Thickness = 1.5"
Neck Pocket = .672" deep
Bridge and Pickup Cavity = .750" deep
Control Cavity = 1.25" deep
Side Jack Hole = 7/8"
String Holes are milled through with .125" bit

Back Specs:
Neck Holes are 3/16" Diameter milled .5 deep
Ferrule Holes are 5/16" Diameter milled .5" deep
Body weight is 4.2 lbs

I also ordered the fuschia flakes in .015 to go on the body and headstock.

I'm thinking along the lines of pearloid for the binding.

I know what I want for the rest of the guitar except the neck.
Does anyone know what neck should fit this?
I like the Gibson R7 baseball neck and the neck on my 2003 Highway One so there is my preference.
Please, anyone with a suggested neck to fit this body let me know.

Thanks.....

I'm so addicted........yikes.......

But my wife likes my color choice....it's so er....ah.....welll....I call it pretty...

It's red and it twangs.

I sort of hated to see it go.

WOW! I am totally jealous. If I had money I would offer you a lot for one of those with a rosewood neck. WOW! WOW! I just love that guitar. Do you give discounts to disabled 41 year olds with 2 kids? LOL. Just kidding. I love your post. And I love that guitar!!! WOW!. Oh. I think I said that.

Never been a fan of sparkly things, especially guitars, but that green one really is something else. Almost makes me want to paint my Jeep to match.

The ones I just measured are 5/8" (0.625"). While yours is deep, I would think it would be in the old ballpark.

BTW - That binding should look REALLY nice with that flake.

It should also be a challenge.

eh eh eh...Hooked another...eh eh eh

Thanks Buck...
I ordered enough binding to do both the top and the bottom.
I also ordered a Warmoth Tele Pro neck in birdseye maple with a boatback shape.
I guess if the neck pocket is too deep, I can glue in a shim piece to bring it up to spec. It won't show so no big deal.

One more question: What color do you recommend to paint the body before the flake? I want a light shade of fuscia...

Remember...I am just making this stuff up as I go along...but for fuscia I would use SILVER, BLACK, or a PURPLE close to the flake color.

Somebody else may have a better idea.

First, I want to make it clear, I am NOT complaining, lots of you have weather much worse than this...

but this is one of the reasons that things have been going slowly...

Iowa I guess.

This should prove to be exciting for somebody...

On these "simple" binding jobs, I have just always shot the color over the binding, then scraped it clean before I shot the clear.

Several of you have suggested that I mask the binding before the primer and color, so I thought I would try it once.

We'll see if it makes my life easier.

Here we've put a coat of white primer on it. I'm going to follow it with a coat of black primer and then sand it back to the white. Hopefully fill in any little glitches on the surface.

More later as things thaw out.

That's right...here we go again...

a coat of black primer...seems like a plan...

and let's sand it smooth...

OOPS!

Something is wrong. The two primers are turning to goop! Pure goop!

Not much to do except take it off.

and back to the drawing board

an upside is that it is much smoother now than it was 3 hours ago!

Time for Plan B.

I'll have to learn how to read the label on cans a bit better.

Here's Plan B.

We're going to fall back on KILZ Primer. As best as I can figure out, it is shellac in a can...with LOTS of white pigment. Builds and covers fast.

It will be a nice base for the GREEN paint that is going on this body.

Here we have removed the tape from the binding, and am knocking the edge of the primer off...back beyond the wood/plastic interface.

Tomorrow I'll tape to the edge of the binding and spray some green.

Bucko, I think a white body with an aged binding like that it would be awesome. Classic hardware, and maple or rosewood neck. White or black p'guard, both plains or 3 layers W-B-W or B-W-B.
