Here is the end of the neck after the binding has been scraped down.
![]() The Secret Weapon did a pretty good job of filling in the gaps.

+1 on the suggestion of sand/gold
HOWEVER I have two more suggestions as well: 1. Ocean Turquoise 2. ....and this may come over as blasphemy BUT.... I think it looks pretty nice in natural... |

I'm just hanging out tonight...skipping the HS basketball game and watching Angie Harmon on the electric television...maybe I can duel task and get some binding and purfling on the back of a body...the same body the neck is destined for by the way...
Some tape, a chunk of 0.040" binding and some checkerboard purfling should fill in the groves I routed a few months ago...back in October I guess when I routed the Emeraldcaster. ![]() It should be straight forward until we get up around those curvy parts... ![]() Spread a little glue and tape... ![]() spread a little glue and tape... ![]() Now we'll set it aside for a bit to dry...and attack it during the next commercial break!

PURPLE sparklies would be nice...but I think it would need white binding to really look its best.

this may sound like heresy..... but...... what if you didn't sparkle this one but did some wood burning... Like a cool horseshow and a cow or horse or cowboy on a horse... with either a blackguard or a leather guard?

One problem though...a guy would sortaneedtohavesomeartistictalent to pull that off without it looking like it was done in a 3rd grade art class... If you what I mean. Here's what happened the last time I tried to get artsy on an instrument. (Don't tell the Mouse's lawyers about it!)

I slowly but surely learning how to work with this stuff.
Butt ends of the purfling can be matched up with each out pretty easily. Seems to work pretty well to file the ends square before they are glued in place. ![]() To go around (or maybe "inside" is a better word) those sharp bends, I have found out that making some relief cuts between the checkerboards works pretty well. The glue fills in the kerfs and they will be invisible when finished. ![]() In woodworking those cuts are called "kerfs." Those kerfs allow me to get the binding and purfling in place with just tape and strong fingers. No more pipe clamps for this guy! ![]() I still have "the fun spot" in front of me. ![]() Once the glue dries I can take off some tape and will see if I can close the gap.

Bucko, I really hope you're talking about that binding... These sparklecasters are looking great, and that binding on the neck - it's so over-the-top I'm starting to like it. Looking forward to the rest of the build. |

I'm going to "slum out" and not even try to bend the purfling around those near 90° corners.
What's on the guitar has been trimmed. ![]() and cut a straight piece to fit the gap. Check the fit... ![]() and glue and tape it in place... ![]() We'll set the mess aside to dry and it should be ready to scrape tomorrow.

btw, I think you DO have artistic talent... lots of it! I'm not a huge rodent fan, but if I were... yours look cool!

Wow! I know you've heard it a thousand times but you do GREAT work! When I stumbled upon this site a few months back your builds were what really got me intrigued with telecasters. Thanks for the inspiration and keep up the good work!

Buck, to fit the tight inside corners, did you kerf the outside and let it compress, or kerf the inside and let it spread?
I've used the heavy paper dark brown tape, but I was afraid to try packing tape - did you have any problem with the adhesive residue on the wood or the binding? Thanks for sharing.

I use the strapping tape simply because with my powerful fingers masking tape tears. And yes, it leaves all sorts of resdue and mess. I just think of it as a new form of grain filler! I would probably never use it on a soft wood like sitka spruce.

Didn't get much of a chance to work on this today...other than scraping the backside down...that was about it...
![]() I'm very pleased with how it turned out. We'll try to get it sanded down this week and spray a few coats of sanding sealer on it... the if I can just figure out what color this bad boy is going to be. When I started the plan was for it to be silver...unless I get real inspired sometime this week silver it will be. Or copper or purple or turquoise Decisions decisions... or maybe champagne
