I love the sparkle on it, and the binding.

Remember the 80s?

Remember the "preppies" that ran around in their pink and green Alligator shirts?

If only these two guitars had existed back then!

By the way...I bear no animosity towards preppies! I had my moments too!

I hear some of the candidates in that little election you guys are having are helping with babysitting and other chores to get people to the caucuses. Maybe you could enlist Hillary or Huckabee to do some wet sanding for you.

Yeah...that'll be the day...this time tomorrow finding a candidate in this state is going to be like finding water in the Sahara...if you know what I mean!

I put clear guards on a couple I painted several years back...they just don't look right to me.

Onliest two Teles that look good with clear guards to me are the Paisleys and the Blue Flowers. I guess I am just a traditionalist!

This is a followup on the old "How thick is it?" question.

The wood was 2.75" thick with do finish.

The guitar is now 2.82" thick.

So all of the goop is 0.07" thick.

Making it about 0.03" to 0.04" per side.

That doesn't seem all that bad to me.

I just checked...back on post #619, when I was scraping the Allparts factory finish off of some necks...I measured a chunk of Allparts neck finish to be 0.011".

utterly drool-inducing, buck...

i was a bit disappointed when i saw that you had opted for a darker fretboard (rosewood? ebony?), but you've changed my mind...so very tasty!

thanks for sharing yet another kickass build...

by the way, have you ever assembled all of your builds for a photo? if so, and if it's readily available on your hard drive, i'd love to see pics of your collection...

heck, your could probably sell it as wallpaper!

Esteban,

Those are so, so, so beautiful. Just amazing. Great job. The green one is just crazy! I love the neck pickup idea... it makes it look even better. Wow!

Nope...no group photo...yet. Maybe if we get a good day with the sun shining...that will happen about APRIL this year!

Thanks again for the kind words kids...now back to binding a neck...and watching some Jimmy Cagney on the electric television.

It certainly doesn't look like it would look bad with a blackguard...but you see...best as I can find out...BUCK NEVER PLAYED A BLACKGUARD!

That's my story...and I'll probably stick to it.

Cheers

Isn't that funny?!

True story here...the first night I played it...maybe the day after I bolt it up...and certainly the first time I am playing it at volume...I noticed at least a couple of those strings were rattling pretty good against the frets...and it was doing it on notes that I play! I can live with fret rattle on notes I don't play (and there are plenty of those) but it was soundling pretty crappy.

It has Glenndale saddles...and I did not have one of those teeny-tiny allen-wrenches that you need to adjust the saddle height ... so I improvised...had to borrow the pennies from the bass player.

That was back in September. I've played it a bunch and changed the strings on it several times, but I never remember to "fix" it.

Try doing THAT with a Les Paul!

So, the intrepid adventurer keeps on trekking...

back to binding a neck

Over the holidays several BIG boxes of parts arrived at DiWiDi Technologies. Binding supplies galore!

The neck purfling and binding are going to go on it separate steps.

First the purfling.

really straight forward.

the binding will go on in Step 2...

as soon as I figure out how to make a couple of 90° bends iin something that isn't designed to bend...

Hope what I have in mind works since I have to put checkerboards on the back of a body for He Who Shall Remain Nameless...and there are a couple of right angles under the neck pocket on that one.

Terrible photo...but I have discovered that a way to get these checkerboards to go around corners is to break it...

with the checkerboard breaking tools it breaks easily...every 1/8"

then it can be glued in place

Really! I'm not usually that sloppy with the glue. That is a brand new bottle that is filled to the top and it oooozes without a thought.

We'll tape this side down to dry and go on to the other side

I wonder how the pattern will match up in the center...

i hope i don't come off sounding like a dope, but here's an idea: howsabout a 3 layer laminate pickguard with the bottom two layers routered off and replaced with that cool checkerboard?? might look cool with a little extra bevel to it. is that beyond the realm of possiblity?
by the way sir, your sparklecasters give this ol boy a serious stirring in the loins!
