New '52 Pick ups

Does any one know what year Fender started putting the new Alnico III pick ups in the 52 reissues and how much difference does it really make. (new vs. old style). Thanks!

Only since some time in 2001. I have one of each, but am building the guitar for the pickup. I wouldn't think the difference would be much.

Thanks

Thanks for your input. I've been looking for a 52 reissue on E-Bay but am seriously contemplating just buying a new one.
