If your Strat neck has 22 frets, and a fingerboard that overhangs, you won't even see that the heal is the wrong shape.
If it's one of those 3-bolt Strat necks, you'll have to drill new holes. This is one I bolted together, and used a Strat neck. Weighed too much so I only played it a couple times before putting the neck back on the Strat. Sounded pretty decent though. ![]() |

But you could get a Tele pickguard made with a Strat heal route. My guess is that Warmoth could do that. Have you seen the picture of Clapton playing a Tele with a Strat neck? Sounds better than Blackie IMO. That one's 21 frets. I think your necl pocket tightness will have a larger effect on stability than the rounded Strat heal. Pete |

I've done it a few times, when I needed 22 frets on a Tele.
It seems like there are a ton of 22 fret Strat necks, with that overhang thing going on. Alternatively, you could shim it lightly, and then the 'guard should just slide out if you need to remove it. 9 times out of 10, it bolts right up. The last one I did was a MIJ neck on a MIM body.

Well, a DeLuxe is basically a Tele with a Strat neck... ;O)

My first partscaster Tele had a Strat neck, no major fit issues and the Tele pickguard hid the slight gap. Playablilty and tone were fine, the weight didn't seem too much of a worry. I kept it on for a while then swapped it out for a chunkier Warmoth neck since the Strat C neck had a smaller radius than I prefer.
Yah sure, it can be done. Be sure to have pics available...

Eric Clapton said he put the Strat neck on the Tele to throw people off. He also said he couldn't stand Tele necks, so he put the Strat neck on.

Hey guys,
I'm planning this exact build: putting an american strat neck on a telecaster body and I'm having trouble finding information! I love the sound and look of telecasters, but hate the head stock, i hate the look of strat bodies, but love the headstock, so thats the motivation. :) No offense intended, but I figure i'm pretty safe on a telecaster guitar forum. Anyway, I have a 22 fret american neck with a rosewood board with an overhang. I don't care how this neck pocket interface looks really, its intended to be a "parts" looking guitar. I'm concerned about a few things that I haven't been able to find answers for: 1: Is the neck plate the same between telecasters and stratocasters? Which neck plate to buy? 2: Some have said this guitar combo will not intonate, I need to measure my 12th fret to nut length and that should be close to the saddle to 12th fret length (of course). Since I'm hunting tele bodies to buy, is there a certain body (MIA, MIJ, MIM?) to avoid? I'd like to do the minimum of wood work... I want to avoid relocating the bridge, etc. 3: Is there a problem with this neck / body interface because the differences in the heel... like affecting sustain, durability etc? I don't understand this statement from Pete: "I think your necl pocket tightness will have a larger effect on stability than the rounded Strat heal." What does stability mean here? staying in tune, or structural stability? Thank you! |
