It's basically the 62 bound body (CIJ) that I love but with a one piece 50sRI neck (CIJ again) and texas pickups with USA vintage tuners. It's got a leather pickguard in the final design stages & it's my first one I've not bought off the shelf, so to speak.

Here's mine, made a year or so ago. Ash body, Mighty Mite neck, Fender No-caster pickups. Grain filler, hand mixed oil base paint applied and wiped off several times, and 7-8 coats of nitro. Plays quite nicely, if I do say so myself. My first (and so far only) assemblage. I pretty much play it every day. Sounds great through a DSL50, and a Blues Jr.

Tokai neck on SX
I just bought an SX tele from Rondo and am considering replacing the strat-like maple neck with a Tokai rosewood tele style that I've had for years.
Will that fit? It's a 21 fret and looks like it will, but I'm nervous about this. I tried the Tokai on an Epiphone tele and the scale length was off...also ending up putting a slight crack in the Epi neck pocket trying to squeeze it in. You guys have more experience at these partscasters so, i'll trust your advice. Last edited by pwilly; November 6th, 2007 at 06:14 AM. Reason: spelling |

I'm a big fan of jump & west coast blues, but I have issues with the size & ergonomics of most of the archtops that are the foundation of the jump guitar sound. This guitar is an effort to hopefully cop reasonably close, faux archtop tones from a "T" style guitar, a platform I'm used to, & like alot. It's definitely a Jason Lollar Charlie Christian Tele neck pickup, & a Lollar Tele Special bridge is in the Glendale steel bridgeplate. It took some time to adjust the Lollar CC neck pickup, so it matches up better with the Lollar Tele Special bridge. It's really loud & strong, & sounds like a cross between a 900lb strat pickup, & a hot P90. I needed to lower it quite a bit, & raise the treble side, since it was really dark with very little highs, & it matches up & sounds much better now that I disconnected the tone cap. It can definitely cop faux archtop tones. Yeah...
The neck is a large profile "T" neck, rosewood board, finished in vintage amber, thin satin nitro, & made by Ian Anderson, who works for Scott Lentz. Ian is an excellent luthier, & makes great necks. Both he & Scott Lentz are really onto something when it comes to wood selection. They do not mess about with inferior wood, & they are extremely picky. I've built lots of parts guitars, & you never really know how it's all gonna turn out until it's done. Could be a gem, or a pooch! What I've found to be the single most important critical element, is the size, weight, & resonance of the neck. All components are important, & have an impact on the overall synergy of the completed guitar, but the neck has to be really lively, & really righteous from jumpstreet, for the guitar to have the best chance at being something special. This neck is killer, & I like the profile alot, which is like a fat 60's C profile down by the nut, & it gets fatter & more robust as you move up the fretboard. Super smooth satin nitro finish... The body is a doublebound 1pc striped african mahogany, selected for resonance, light weight, & finally cosmetics. It wasn't actually tap tuned, but it was selected over many other slabs of mahogany with better looking grain on the front, & all the slabs were tapped looking for the most resonant & lively piece available. This was the "one" She's real purdy, & turned out really nice with a unique personality. Sassy & spanky, & a little chunky. She's different from a regular Tele, but she's still all Tele. The finisher did an outstanding job on the body, & the thin nitro is sinking a little in to the pores, which we discussed beforehand, & was expected. She resonates like a mutha, rings like a bell, & has plenty of Tele style highs, a pleasant surprise for a 1pc mahogany body! I guess I was expecting it to sound darker & mid heavy, & while it does have more mids than alder or ash, it's not alot more. Nice & light too, not a featherweight, just about right where you'd want it to be. Having the body dry out for over 2 years helped in the tone & weight dept. The Glendale bridge has alot to do with the traditional tone & twang, & it also has this cool kinda compression thing going on that I'm diggin' alot. I'm making progress. Here are a couple of pictures. I made a Nut out of Brazilian Rosewood as a practice exercise. It already sounds amazing but maybe its just the pleasure of having assembled it myself.
