Guitar stands...

G'day folks,

I have finally decided I should stop leaning my guitars against my amp on stage and buying a stand.

Anyone have or seen one that can take two guitars? I carry a Tele and a Strat and it would be ideal to have 'em on one stand.

Thanks!

Adam

On Stage Stands

They make an A frame style stand that has two spaces. The front space has room for either an acoustic or an electric and the rear space holds an electric. I've been using mine for two years and it works pretty well. You have to be careful when you pull one off though becasue it is easy to bump into the other one. This is the only compact solution that I have seen. All of the other ones are really big and cumbersome and have a tendancy to fall over when one guitar is removed.

Beware of some stands...

A post above discusses the problems when rubber on stands contacts with nitro lacquer. Disasterous!

Genesis Stands from Ultimate Support. Easy to set up and they work real well.

I like the K&M "Heli" stands. Very stable and they breakdown nice and flat for transport. I can even fit one into my P-bass case.

Not necessarily "disaster." It depends on the type of rubber -- the "lacquer safe" stuff won't eat your finish, but may leave black marks (I've always been able to polish those out). Also, if you lay a towel or soft shirt across the bottom of a stand, you'll be okay.

Here in the UK, I bought a twin guitar stand made by Hercules - it's ace! :D The guitar hangs from the neck (like it would do in a store) and the stand has an auto grab system that locks the guitar in place when on the stand. As soon as you go to pick the guitar up, the lock releases. Very convenient and very cool on stage! :D

I got a triple by Hercules. It has a small footprint for a triple and holds three instruments of varying sizes quite securely. The tripod stand is very stable even with only one or two instruments in the stand and it folds up about the size of a mic stand. It's available in the U.S. as well - I bought mine in Austin, TX.

If you're worried about the rubber

One thing I did was to buy 3/8" ID Air Hose, found in most hardware stores. Cut it to length and slide it on. Will last a lifetime and it's cheap. Also comes in neat colors, orange, yellow, etc. Never liked that surgical tubing stuff. It would get gummy after a while.

Hercules Stands

Be VERY cautious with the hercules stands. I have an acoustic with a 'v' neck, and the stand wound up putting divots in my headstock. Although the sides of the 'neck grabber' are padded, the back is not, and there is a fairly sharp corner of plastic where the two meet. Don't think it'd be a problem with most electric necks, but be aware.

Hey Jesse,

Maybe they updated the neck grabber, as the one I just bought has the neoprene padding at the back as well.

Cheers,

Adam
