JD Tele in for a Refret
I brought my recently purchased JD Tele to a guitar tech to have it set up and to advise me on some worn frets, string height, and saddle issues. I had to force myself to bring it in and drop it off. I have been enjoying it so much.
Being a novice, I did not really know if the original frets could be salvaged or if I should consider a refret. I anticipated having to replace at least a few frets.
Well, the guitar tech (Eric Chaz of Eric's Guitars) gave my Tele a good look over and then left me with a few options. He informed me the fret wear was severe and basically to the wood in several areas. So, I decided to pony up the $$ and do a refret using 6150 fret wire. He felt there were no issues with the bridge/saddles and was confident he could work it into proper playing shape.
Eric also stated that I could replace the neck, but the whole reason I bought the JD Tele was for the uniquely shaped highly figured neck. I knew my JD had potential when Eric picked it up and exclaimed: "Oh yeah! That is a very nice neck. The 'V' is there, but it is subtle, not ridiculous. And the wood grain is nice."
I am really anxious to feel/hear how it turns out. I will know in a week.
