black paint over white binding
hello,
this is my first post and i do already have a question. since a few weeks i own a american deluxe tele with a 3 tone sunburst painting and white binding. i love the guitar and how its playable. the only thing that i don't like and please don't hit me with the umbrella is the white binding. Is there a way to paint over or airbrush it with black color so that its no longer visible? Would this work or ruin the guitar? thanks & regards, pfnadde |

Ich werde entsetzt!
(How did I do remembering my Hoch Schüle Deutsch?) Sunburst with double-white binding is a desirable thing. While I won't hit you with a Regenschirm, you will understand why I am scratching my head. I am sure that you could airbrush over it. You wouldn't be painting the binding though, you would just be painting over the clear coat that is over the binding. Without clearing over you airbrush working, it would probably be hard to make it stick. May I suggest finding a non-bound sunburst body and swapping them out? Willkommen zum der TDPRI!

I'm with Bucko here. Most people find binding desirable (it costs a lot more because it's labour intensive) - so if you advertise your bound body for a swap, you might find you can ask for some cash to make up the difference!
A few months ago, somewhere here, a couple of guys had necks that had the "wrong" fretboard woods to match their body colour's. They swapped and everyone felt warm and fuzzy because like on Sesame St, people can cooperate for mutual benefit. |

Just get a different guitar. I hate to see an American Deluxe Telecaster destroyed.
