Who plays telecaster with Jackson Browne on Austin City Limi
http://www.pbs.org/klru/austin/artists/program429.html
I saw a rebroadcast of this a couple of months ago and was amazed at the variety of sounds. Went out and bought my first Telecaster instead of a Les Paul. Frist post. This group is great and so are tele's. |

Mark Goldenberg
Yes - it is Mark Goldenberg. He plays on the Jackson Browne cd 'The Naked Ride Home' and is excellent.
The cd has been in the multichanger in my car since January and I haven't tired of JB's superlative songs and Mark Goldenberg's incredible tone and playing. I saw JB play at The Hammersmith Apollo back in February and Mark Goldenberg played an assortment of incredible Tom Anderson Telecasters (see the Tom Anderson website for more details): http://www.andersonguitars.com/whatsnew.html

Mark Goldenberg
An excellent player. I remember he used to play in an LA band called the Cretones. Good guitar edge pop-rock. I recall one song "Everybody's Mad At Katherine," and he also used to play with Linda Ronstadt.

Thanks for the info and...
I appreciate the responses. I found that Mark has appeared on a number of other releases from several artists. Teles have felt good to my hands for several years, but I was putting my son through college, helping support his guitar habit, and my work schedule gave me little time to play. He mostly plays Les Paul's, a MIM Strat that I put EMG pickups in, and a Yamaha Tele style. I had gotten rid of a Squire Strat and then an Epi Les Paul Special II... (I just didn't get comfortable with either of them, but my son could make them both sound good) and was looking to get another electric. Nearly bought a Les Paul twice, but continued to waver. Watched the Austin City Limits show and was so impressed with Mark's Telecaster playing that I went looking to buy one. Purchased a Squire Standard Telecaster, vintage blonde, 20th anniversary edition, that came from the NAM show. Certainly not top of the line, but to me, it's got great feel, tone, and sustain for the money. I'm lovin' learning how to play it.

Me too...
I play a Squier Standard (Midnight Wine finish) and truly it's a beautiful guitar. Nicely finished, decent hardware (I happen to like 6-saddle bridges as I play v clean a lot), and just a wonderful sound. Suits me down to the ground... and as a former '58 Strat owner, I do know what Fenders are supposed to be like!

playing clean
I remember admiring the midnight wine color when it first became available. It seems that I will be playing clean most of the time. When ready, I'll join a worship team at church. I led worship with an acoustic guitar for a number of years. My son plays a lot of Blues and now is working on Jazz techniques, in addition to playing at churches. He's now in Georgia and I'm in Kentucky. Sometime later, I'd like to try a Nashville Power Tele.

Very different thing, John,
play electric lead in worship, to leading with an acoustic. IMHO you have to start just playing very hidden, supportive things, and just let the Spirit draw out of you what He wants. Then it'll be worship, not just guitar playing. A friend of mine said, "A worship musician who's not an intercessor is just a performer." I guess she's right!
I play lead in our Purbeck Vineyard Church band (hence PVTele!), with all kinds of lineups from just me & 1 singer with acoustic, to 2 acoustics, bass, keyboard, djembe &/or full kit.

I understand...
In the past, I was leading and pastoring. Now, it's watching, praying and supporting. I have no interest in performance for the sake of performing nor even to be on the platform. Pastor and worship team have asked me to participate... but I'll wait for His time and gifting.
To write more is too personal for a public forum... Thanks for your thoughts. threejohntwo@hotmail.com |

You're right, John
this is a Telecaster forum, not a Christian worship seminar... expect an email!
