I've got one of those Levy's leather bags and it's fantastic. I got a pawn shop to throw it in on a $100 squier strat deal ( I knew what the bag was and could have cared less about the squier). I doubt i'd pay $250 although it's worth every penny. How much does a GOOD leather jacket cost????? the levy's bag is GREAT quality leather and construction. ![]() I also have a south american (Guatemala???) made leather bag and the leather quality is quite good (but not as good as the levy's, but good) and the construction quality is OK, just OK. I see these south american ones sold at guitar shows for $100 to $200. Johnny Last edited by JohnnyAtomic; July 30th, 2007 at 09:53 AM. |

azn: you said, "just for a gig bag". You're looking at it wrong. I used to be of the mindset I want a hard shell for everything. But unless you're shipping a guitar or loading your guitar in a trailer along with the rest of the band's stuff, a gig bag is a lot more practical. Once at the gig you can stow it anywhere. I think they're great! But why not treat yourself to a good one!

Leather is going to cost you no matter what. The best ones I've seen are Reunion Blues--they've been the leader for years. but in the $300+ range.

Glad to not need one
I have what used to be the Fender Premium gig bag and it hasn't thrown stitch one in the five or six years of hard use it's had.

If you don't absolutely have to have all leather, I can recommend Tough Traveler. They're very well-made bags.

I always thought the black was "it" and then I saw one in brown saddle leather and was blown away. Also, if You're looking for great practibility in wet climates the one around here for years was the Mooridian - I probably butchered the spelling but they were for a while the bag. Everyone and their brother if they could afford 'em (around 100-135 bucks) had 'em. And then it's like they fell off the face of The Earth.

Reunion Blues - far from cheap, but incredibly well made - a lifetime purchase.

I guess I got lucky when I bagged a dusty old (new) Levys from the back of the GC rack last year. It had been marked down three times. There it was, pinned to the wall behind the nylon cheapos. The original price was $289; clearance, $145.
It has a small zipper pocket up at the neck end for a couple of sets of strings and spare picks. The large buckled pouch at the body end will hold a strap, couple o' cables, tuner, dirt pedal, and the lever thingy for the Hipshot. It is well padded, nice leather, and comfortable to carry with the shoulder straps for one easy trip car to bar. Good stuff.

Also got a Gator for 1 guitar though... didn't want a real solid case, nor a soft case.
Gator is the best of both worlds. Not leather though. ![]() http://www.gatorcases.com/productsmo...&PID=15&MID=18

Though not as sexy as a leather bag this is one I've been eyeballing for a while. From a construction/protection standpoint it looks amazing. Check out the extra photos of the foam layers...
