Telecaster Fret Wire Gauges
I'm hoping that some of the experts here can tell me a little bit about the standard thicknesses of Telecaster fret wire over the years and if has fluctuated much from decade to decade. The reason I ask is because of the recent change in the MIM from "vintage" to "medium-jumbo" and I was curious if the thinner gauge wire is traditional. Personally I prefer more substantial frets yet one of my favorite guitars, an '04 MIM Standard Telecaster, has the thinnest wire of any of my guitars.
Now I'm considering snaggin' an affordable Telecaster with medium-jumbos and it got me thinking about what the guitar's historical standard actually is. |

Readers Digest Version...Fender & Martin always had small wire...Gibson didn't.....some Fenders started using larger wire around 83 or so....I doubt if Fender knows........
