Any Love for the ESP Ron Wood tele?

I might have a line on one of these. I'm a sucker for a maple neck with a nice Humbucker in the neck posistion.

I'd like to try one . I've always been a fan of the bucker/neck - singlecoil/bridge combination. I've just never seen one in my travels , they seem well made .

you don't see em around much which is a shame. Unfortunately with esp signature series guitars you are paying extra for the artist name of the headstock :(

I've been looking for a decent one for quite some time...most seem to be "hacked" in some way. The genius that want a middle pick-up and uses a chisel, putting on a strat bridge, scalloping the frets...etc. I played a stock on once it was fine as it is. One of these days!

Don't know about this model - the headstock's wrong to my eyes - but I can say that ESPs are of highest build quality and totally pro-standard instruments. I'd take my early 1980s 400-series Tele (with the proper headstock shape) over any MIA or MIJ Fender of the period that I've tried. In fact, I did!

Coincidentally I was just looking at a red one signed by Ronnie Wood hanging behing the cash wrap at Rainbow Guitars here in Tucson. It looked like a pretty sweet guitar.

I just picked this up from Daves Guitar shop last night:

Brand new........$995. You just can't beat that with a stick! He just blew it out to make room for some new stock and I was at the right place at the right time when it was listed on his website. He said I snagged it 15 minutes after he posted it and he was getting emails all day still about it.

This is the first NEW guitar I've bought in about 12 years. I always buy second hand but this price was just as good.

About time I get some good luck.........(maybe I better keep my mouth shut until it arrives )

That looks pretty great to me. I'll take one of those and a side order of his signature Gibson J-200.

My favorite Ron Wood quote was a couple fo years ago after he got out of rehab: "I'm totally clean and sober nowadays, I just have a couple of Guiness each day and a glass of wine with dinner and that's it."

Bless his little cotton socks.

Cool. How was the neck on it? Was it chunky in a good way?

On the strength of my ESP Tele as referred to above, I just bought a 400-series Strat as well. This one's a little older than the Tele, with a black-and-gold logo and the ESP headstock shape, which doesn't look quite so out-of-place on a Strat. If anything it's even better, with the most incredibly sublime neck that suits me to perfection. Meanwhile my recently brand-new AV62RI Custom Tele languishes unloved and now unplayed. I think this makes my case for brand E over brand F...

Ron Wood ESP with 2 single-coils

There's a red Ron Wood signature ESP with 2 single coil pickups and a pearloid pickguard. The owner says it's original from around '92 but I can't seem to find any reference to this configuration anywhere.

Is anybody familiar with this?

Thanks.

I believe James McMurtry plays one or he did. I saw him at the Continental Club in Austin about a month back and now he's using a PRS. It just doesn't seem right.

Strange that they call them Ron Wood, because the ESP's Ronnie uses are all B-bender equiped - well as far as I've seen them.
he uses a black one and a red one.

Ronnie Wood Tele

I'm biased, but I love my buddy Vic's who has an original early run signed by Ronnie directly to Vic; Not too fancy, CAR color, and plays like butter. Vic often uses this as his go-to quick grab guitar when inspired. I dont blame him....

I remember playing a Ron Wood ESP more than a year ago and loved the feel and tone. I didn't even mind the headstock which I'm not really fond of. If I do get one, I might have a go at re-shaping the headstock.

Anyway, I've been wondering if there's an Edwards (ESP Japan)model. I'm always on the lookout.

Scooby Don't - $995 is an awesome price. I doubt you can get them anymore at that price, even a used one.

People, people, people. You must learn that a company can copy just about anything about a Fender guitar but two things: 1) the name (of course) and 2) the headstock, which is protected by trademark. If the only headstock that looks right on a tele-style guitar is the traditional one, then you must be Fender brand loyal.

I too had my doubts about the headstock shape when I got my 400-series Strat (see earlier post). But I've become used to it and, to me at least, it says, "Hey, look - I'm not a pretend Fender, I'm a real ESP!". Which is very definitely nothing to be ashamed of.

Edit: I was typing this while our friend Unseen was posting with a quote from me on this thread last year. Shows how my view's been amended in the meanwhile.

I don't think that this is necessarily so in many cases. Rather it's a matter of aesthetics, in as much that if a standard headstock shape is so familiar and identifiable with a particular body configuration, irrespective of brand, then any variation will, at least at first sight, seem incongruous.

+1. I like the Tele headstock because it looks nice to me. I've got a Migthy Mite neck on partscaster and I really like the headstock shape even though it doesn't say Fender. I'm planning to get Warmoth or Musikraft necks and it wouldn't say 'F' on it.

those also have dual 'buckers, as opposed to a single coil and a 'bucker.

I love mine

I'm a Fender man, but a big Ronnie Wood fan too, when I saw one for $800, I jumped on it and I'm glad I did. Quickly became my number one, it's a great guitar. Twangs with the bridge and screams with the bucker. Had mine since June and I can't put it down.
I can see how people don't like the headstock, but play one, I don't think you'll be disappointed.
The fretwork and neck are superb.
Now if Mr. Wood could only get his act together!

Thought I'd bump this thread up as I recently picked up an '06 Custom Shop Ronnie Wood. I've only had it for a few weeks, but I can't seem to put it down. The quality of the workmanship is second to none. It's one of the best playing guitars I own, and with the combination of the bridge tele pickup and Humbucker neck, I can get quite a few differing tones out of it. My only beefs (and they are really preferences) is that I would prefer the frets to be just a little taller and it's kind of heavy for a tele (around 8.5 lbs). But those are things I can easily look over since it's such a fine guitar.

Mine's a year old now and I still love it. It's a non trad Tele, but the neck is nice and fat and there's lots of great mojo in this guitar.

Years ago, around 1980-- I was a working musician on the road. I really wanted a Strat, actually needed one.
Fender Strats were hard to find--a lot of people were buying them to put Floyd (GULP) Roses on them.
Anyway--I stopped in a local shop and found a Partscaster--it had a Charvel neck and ESP body--the old Seymour Duncan pups. She was a fine sounding guitar--always got plenty of compliments on my tone.
Like a lot of the unfinished Charvel necks--this one warped after a few years on the road--by then I played Teles and had a few other Strats. I put her away, slowly collected parts for her, and basically forgot about her.

Eventually, around 2002, I acquired a beautiful Birdseye, maple, Warmouth, neck and went to work.
I looked at the body--it was a swamp ash! I totally forgot what I had.
I put her together with old Fender pups, a new bridge, and WOW!
She's been my #1 gigging Strat since--maybe worth about $350?!
She's road worn, sentimental, wouldn't trade her for a new CS Strat.
Someday, I'll treat her to a set of Fralin's . . .
I love this guitar!
Goes to show--brand name doesn't always mean squat!
ESP's are fine instruments--wouldn't hesitate to grab a Tele too!

As one who really hates goofy headstock shapes and can't believe some of the headstocks used by many high end 'boutique' builders, I must say this is one of the better non-Fender designs.

The ESP headstock on this model ( and the George Lynch relic models ) is one of the few non Fender designs that I actually like.
