Mwah Hah Hah! It's ALIVE! Witness my monster!

Well the project is done:

Originally a stock Fender John 5 Telecaster, now I introduce to you...the Mark 5 Telecaster!

Changes Made:
1) Replaced Stock (and often the butt of jokes) Neck with a TL-71 CIJ Tele Neck (off of an Antigua RI)
2) Replace Stock Enforcer HB with a TV Jones TV'Tron Mounted Magna'Tron
3) Added a LP style pickup selector ring
4) Changed Chrome pickguard to white

I'm going to fire it up tonight and see how it sounds!

The only thing I might do in addition is change the knobs to Gretsch G Arrows and add a gretch switch tip to the toggle (but now I'm officially out of GAS money as I just bought a Boss DM-3 and CS-2 in the same day).

Whadday think?

That looks really classy, a 'Tuxedo Tele'? Not too much glam just right.

Nice job!

That is one cool Telecaster mod!

Personally, I would reverse the control plate, for better reach...

Very well done!

I still don't know why you wanted to go and ruin the vintage value of that minty J5.

She's a looker though. Well done.

I can dig those changes.

The child of an Antigua and John 5 turned out pretty good looking.

Some of those ugly genes must be recessive.

No way, the J5 neck was sold and shipped and the antigua neck was bought all by its lonesome.

And it's still wired with the orig wiring (2 vols. no tone).

Thanks for all the nice comments folks!

I used to try that line with women - never really worked for me either.

Huge improvement on that J5 - too bad Fender never thought of that. Nice job.

A tremendous improvement.

I suspect the J5 headstock will wind up falling in the "what in the name of Mike were we thinking" category over at Fender. But you were able to mitigate the damage.

Maybe in the future most of those necks will end up as twelve string necks...

Very nice. I like the two volume, no tone idea.

Antigua? Bletch! Those things look like they were kitchen appliances at one time!

Waiting for the full "tone report."

Nice job, Mark....but I'm starting to get a complex

Mark: Nice job on the new & improved J5. Be interesting to hear your thoughts on how the pickup combination sounds once you get some time behind the wheel. I'm wondering if you'll miss the tone control with those two different style of pickups in there.

As for the rest of you:

Being the source of the neck for Mark's new beauty, I'm starting to feel a little picked on here. It takes a real man to strap an avacado with strings around his neck!

Well. Um. It's a bit better without the Antigua pickguard.
It still looks to me like a sunburst gone horribly wrong...
I wouldn't choose this finish, but if it's your thing, go with it!

I like this one too. Maybe because I like a good guacamole dip.

Hmm, is that rosewood neck what's left of that 3TS CIJ Bigsby '62 Custom?

You know, without the Antigua pickguard, that looks cool. And I've seen an Antigua pickguard on a non Antigua finish and that looked pretty good too. Go figure!

50 years from now, someone's going to find your tele in a pawn shop or garage sale, and through painstaking research, will discover that it's actually a John 5 model. They'll spend thousands of dollars returning it back to original specs, and will be forced to make a John 5 neck from scratch, because they can't find one anywhere.

It's gonna happen...
