How long do you wait for nitro?

I sprayed the final four coats of clear Deft a week and a half ago. I really want to complete the build - how long should I wait for it to cure before wet sanding and hitting it with rubbing compound? It seems completely hard.

My first build was a little different, but I waited about two weeks and that went fine.

Find a spot in the neck pocket or somewhere else that won't be seen and push a thumbnail into it. If you dent it it's still curing. If you don't, forge ahead with your wetsanding. I usually wait a month to make sure it's cured completely.

Good luck with the refinish! Nothing makes you feel better than getting a mirror shine on that project!

It all depends on your climate. I usually start wet sanding in about a week.

I waited three weeks in April in sunny Seattle and all went well (with the nitro, anyway).

Here in San Jose, CA, I wait at least 2 weeks.

The only other comment I can make is that haste makes for a bad job. So, relax grasshopper and allow the guitar to dry. You will be glad you did.

Wait as long as you can.

Then wait a bit longer.
