$2.7 ??????. My sources say they weren't produced until 1990. $2.7 is way out of line here in the USA. If you were willing to pay the price ........... can't really say you were cheated.

But according to the Serial No. Data..

E9 + 5 digits = 1988-1990

My Tele serial no. is E904783 and made in US..

Brand new one is $1500 with a different paint scheme. I don't know how collectible the old ones are, but only you can decide if the difference is worth $1200 to you... I wouldn't have done it, but that's just MHO.

I think US$1250 is a damn fair price for a nice looking guitar . How does it play ?

Sorry mucc but i really didn't like mine !
The Lace sensors and the way they are fitted (same angle as a Strat) meant it didn't have that Tele 'clang' i was looking for and mine weighed a ton !!
Just my opinion of course, the bloke i sold it too loves it and still plays it.

How right you are!. some prices here are outrageous.

We have a couple of "Collectors" shops and the prices are a joke especially when some of the guitars are really not that old to warrant the price tag.

Still, there will always be someone that wants their dream guitar.

Different strokes!!!!!

I see... I thought so too... it plays very well.. i was hooked for the first time i tried on it.. I love the red paisley design on the body.. it looks super exotic and sexy.. actually i love the Gold Colored one also.. but the Red one is more rare i believe?

This is what they say about the Lace Sensor Pick ups-
Low noise and high output for incredible response and sustain. Fender-Lace™ Sensors continue to be some of our most popular pickups to date. Each color represents a different sound: The Blue is warm and loud like an old 50's humbucking pickup.

I actually agreed with Big John about the layout of the pick ups..it uses the Lace Sensor Pick Ups for Strat.. just a little disappointing regarding the pick ups.. Going to change it to all to Vintage "Noiseless" Tele® Pickups.. But it comes in a set of 2... just wait till i have the cash

That's a nice looking guitar.

I was hoping this thread would answer the question that has been bugging me for years: Why aren't all James Burton model Red/Pink Paisley like God intended them to be?

It seems like sometimes Fender calls in a well known player and says ... "Let's design a signature guitar ............. not like the one you've played for years but completely different". Other examples: The John 5 and the Merle Haggard.

2007 BlueBook list the J.B.tele at $1000.00-$1200.00, production started in 1990. It appears to be in very good condition, if you like it and it has good tone.....you did good. I don't see these for sale too often so I'd gladly pay $1200 if I wanted one.

I would change the the pickups like this:

Blue to the bridge (P90 sound)
Silver to the neck (70's strat)Put a Gold in the middle.

Or change all three to Gold Lace Sensors. I love the sounds of them myself.

I'm wondering if anyone has changed the pickups in a JB tele and how were the results. I got a used black and gold one that looks like it wasn't cared for very well. I like the pickups but some seem much louder than others, and they seem to hum much more than I would expect from the lace sensors.

Price Seems A Bit High?

Those are nice but for a lace equipped Tele I've always preferred the Tele Plus.

I have an older - late 90s - James Burton Standard: alder body, vintage yellow finish, reverse taper neck, and texas special (AlNiCo V) pickups. It's super... though I might put it on the auction block as part of a gear (and fiscal) consolidation plan.

I've only read good things about the three-pickup sig model that Mucc purchased. If you're digging it... then it's a great purchase!

I had a dream once that I was playing a Gold Paisley Burton with 3 Barden pickups....

Not sure if the price in OZ would be that much, but if that's the going rate in Singapore, that's it.

I haven't seen a red one before, so I'm envious. I only have a black/gold one....

I have a black gold one also. How do you like yours? My pickups have a good bit of buzz. Is that typical? I like the sound of the pickups but they seem a little noisy.

To be honest, I don't remember how mine sounds. I'm a collector and I usually play a guitar when it arrives to see what it's like and then it will be not played for long periods of time.

I certainly don't remember anything negative about it though, so I can only assume it didn't have any unusual buzzes or anything like that.

I have the white with gold hardware and it's my number one. It's the best guitar that I have ever played. No pickup buzz here. I like the pickups so much that I have ordered a set of Lace Sensors to go in one of my Strats.

I had a tech look at it. He said it isn't a grounding issue. It only hums when I take my fingers off the strings. As long as I hold ahand on the strings it is quiet. I had an old strat with lace sensors and they were real quiet. Thats why this puzzles me. I'm wondering how much some shielding would help. Any opinions?

I think the price is good, especially if it's one of the first models. I wouldn't consider it as a "Tele" since it's more in the league of a non-trem model Strat and teh lace sensors are quite modern sounding - you don't get that "Tele" twang (except if you are Mr. Burton himself, who can probably make a Jackson pointy guitar sound like a Tele... the magic's in his fingers!)

Save your money and buy a reasonably powered TUBE amp. Fender, Vox,
PIGNOSE, Sovtek, etc., ..... 15-40 watts.

Noiseless in sets of 2 are ok, just look for a used one on ebay for the third.....

maybe even route the middle and put a P-90 in it you could start a Jonny Lang cover band.
