Nobody seems to know

Redd usually hangs around here (on this board). Maybe he IS with Hag. I thought Hag mighta got pissed 'cause Redd shone so brightly on stage, but that is sheer conjecture and I wouldn't want to start a destructive rumor.
I sure hope Redd does continue to play with Hag because I first saw Redd on TV with Hag and, together, they changed my mind about C&W (I used to hate it). . . Now, I have two of Redd's CDs (personally signed) a sittin' right 'cheer. (next to Traffic, Steely Dan, and Peter Gabriel).

(That is "Redd Volkaert", for those who haven't a clue)

Hag on tour.

Hey there its me its me! Its ReddyV!!
I won't be touring with Merle this summer, but as far as I know, Norman Stevens (Lefty Frizzell's original GP) will be with him. He's a great guitar player and a REEEEEEEEL nice fella, so say hi for me if you see him in your town!

for those of you close enough, or might take a vacation to austin soon;), let's all get together and see redd right here in town. lord knows he did extraordinary work with merle, but he truly shines doing his solo thing or even with haybale. it gives him more time to do his thing, and it's a rockin texas time in the audience.

Sundays are good

I like the Hey Bales best, in terms of Redd's local companions. The other guys are really good too but, I still would rather listen to keyboards than steel guitar. I saw him play with a really good steel worker one Saturday but it sort of walked all over Redd and I just haven't acclimated to that sound. (for me it is one step above bag-pipes and accordian . . . no offense, as these are all great instruments and a flavorful part of the music world ... I just need to be in the mood and not overdose.)

Ha! Thats funny Tex....

Steel sounds great man. Some of the most *emotional* licks I have ever heard have come from a steel player.

When I first started playing do you think I thought I would end up playing faux steel licks on my Tele? Nope! I didn't like country.

Cheers,

Adam

I'll probably end up playing one... in the end.

I acknowledge this as a personal handycap, spawned through early abuses and learned predjudice. It will take me a good while to back out of my narrow mindedness. I'll get there.

Good steel guitar is great. Bad steel guitar is something that shouldn't be heard at all, by anyone, ever.

Actually, what opened my ears to steel was Ron Wood.

The country spoof "Faraway Eyes" from the Some Girls album.

Hardly *amazing* steel, but good enough for me to want more country and steel.

Cheers.

That's exactly right. Luckily I got a buddy whose a very good steel player. I hate doing country gigs without him. Here in San Diego, there aren't many around. I'll say this, if you can play halfway decent steel, they'll be plenty of gigs for you. I'm planning on getting a single neck this summer. I'm moving to St. Louis for school in August, and I guess they've got a music store there that's supposed to have some good steel teachers. Should be fun. Steel's great because you can just play the melody of a song, and it sounds magical. Ward
