Andy Summers Tele

I got my new Guitar Player and saw a reference to the http://www.fender.com/ website with a nice article on Andy Summers and how he got his '62 Tele. They are of course doing a replica but the article is great as are the pictures and the interview. The link is in the front page and be sure to check out the "button" to flip the guitar over to see the back.

Here is a quote from the Andy Summers interview that hits pretty close to home.
Quote:
This was a period when a sort of mania existed among guitarists, who thought that any guitar—any vintage model—could be improved upon by rewiring the pickups, changing necks, adding different tailpieces, etc.—a kind of early move toward guitar geekdom. The Telecaster that was offered to me was a battered victim of this trend.

Sorry if this has been posted before. I searched and couldn't find it if it was.

This makes me wonder how there seems to be so many all original vintage guitars. I have read that in multiple articles that everyone was changing and parting out there guitars during that period. Probably way more fakes out there than I want to know :)

Watch out! That may draw fire around here.

I think your rationale is correct! I also think a lot of dealers have turned a semi-blind eye to this, too. It wouldn't hurt my feelings one bit to find my 65 is semi-original. Not at all. Others think it is a sin to even replace worn tuners and saddles.

I just don't see how so many great specimens are jumping out of the woodwork (pun intended) lately.

I think it is worth mentioning that no vintage bowed-stringed instruments are all-original. Violas, violins etc get re-varnished every four years or so and rebuilt periodically to put new soundposts inside. Tuning pegs and fretboards are also routinely changed. My girlfirend has a Perisson viola that has had this done many times over it fifty-year life. Most old guitars are going to, if they don't already, need some parts changed.
