SQ tele vs "E" serial # tele

Has anyone played these two style tele's and if so was there a lot of difference? I want a SQ modeland I was able to play it and it was a very fine instrument, but I have found an "E" model but its to far away to test drive. Anybody have a comment? Thanks in advance.

I can't compare the SQ to the E model Squiers but I can vouch for the SQs.
I have two Teles: a vintage reissue MIA and an '84 SQ.
If I could only keep one it would be the SQ.
Being able to play before you pay is a big advantage when having to make a choice.
Good luck and let us know what you get.

Thanks Lewis for the reply. I have a friend who has a SQ that never plays it, but he want let it go. That guitar plays like butter. Like I said I have a mij 57' strat reissue which is sweet and plays great but I'm a teleman so I was hoping the "E" guitar tele would fit the bill. P.S. If anybody has a SQ tele forsale pm me and lets talk! The guy says the "E" tele plays like butter, too, but that is always highly subjective.

SQ is the better instrument, but an E is very nice.

SQ will be string through, vintage bridge. Ash, Sen, or alder body.

E will six saddle top loader, and basswood body.

SQ will also add couple hundred to the resale over the E series.

The "E"s came in different models, can`t lump em all together...nor will every E be great. I`ve got 2 A serial teles from 1985 that are real nice. Have some E strats that are nice too but not any better than the As I have. I own a bunch of 80s FJs and they are among my favorites but I`m not hung up on the E serials...I try all the 80 FJs I come across and buy the keepers and release the others.

I have one of each.

My 84 squire SQ is like a vintage late 60's/early 70's tele in look and feel. Neck is nice full c shape. Vintage bridge, poly blonde finish, and came with cheapo tuners that i replaced with klusons; post holes match perfectly(some come with heavier gotohs). SAN/ash body-7lb 10oz. One of my favorite necks

My 87 E squire is nice. Neck is skinnier with gotoh tuners. Top loading bridge like the 83 telecaster bridge that i modded to a vintage thru. I like the pickups better on this model. It's black so it's hard to tell the wood. 7lb 7oz

I haven't compared my E to an SQ so I can only speak about what I know. This E Squier, is a really good guitar, very 60/70's vintage look and feel. It is a toploader, which I don't mind at all. I upgraded the bridge and saddles to Glendale. (He makes a dual loader bridge to fit) The Gotoh tuners are excellent. I changed the pups out to Toneriders as the ones that came on it (don't know if they were original) were just to bright for my taste. The neck is really smooth and fast. Overall, I would say it's a high quality guitar and would have a hard time selling it. Even after the pickup change, it's the twangiest Tele I have. I thought it had an alder body, but according to timgreene, it's basswood. It's got a nice see-through poly finish on it, but I don't know my woods well enough to argue. I've seen an "A" series go for $650 recently on Ebay. I thought E's were suppose to be better than A's and SQ's better than E's. Keep in mind that I'm new to owning Squier's but this E Tele is a keeper.
