Another option is to hollow it out from the back and add plastic covers. I did that to a cheap copy once. It's covered in the following thread

Your guitar should look really nice with the stripes wrapping around the sides.
Very interesting, what a neat idea. Did you get the opportunity to play that git before the weight loss? If so, how did it affect the tone?
What a cool forum!

As much as I appreciate Jack's work (which is awesome), that idea is great for a painted tele. In your case, I'd rather live with the weight (now that you're committed) and see the beautiful wood, than cover a large percentage of the back with plastic.

In for a penny, in for a pound, so go for it, IMHO.

Btw, I have an all-maple-bodied non-tele guitar that weighs in at 9 lbs, 7.5 oz. Yep, it's heavy, but not the heaviest, and it's certainly bearable.

Indeed. Hopefully the time and effort spent on my templates will pay off and the next one will be ash or alder, for comparison.
Soon on to the neck. Words of wisdom appreciated!

Here's one word of advice: I'd start a new thread to cover this build. It doesn't really belong inside this thread. Plus, the wood is so nice, and as far as I can remember, it will be the first all-flame-maple tele I've seen.

As far as the neck is concerned the only thing I would mention at this point is to keep your sequencing in mind. And I would definitely check out Jack's threads on that one. I have some neck-building stuff posted here, as do a number of others, but for a traditional tele-neck build, Jack's is the best.

I'd need the cavity depth of a P90 pickup (neck) on a Tele for my own build, has anyone this value ? Maybe this would be something to add to the blueprint. Thanks in advance, this blueprint looks great, I wish I had it a few weeks ago :)

Ahhh, Blueprints, Brownlines, Shakos (sp?). Those terms aren't outdated...the younger college grads always look at us weird when we use them. They also have no idea what we mean when we say that something is back on our "board"

Actually, D-size is now outdated, isn't it? I think that was really 24x36 and the 22x34 took over with the newer plotters and "A0" formats.

Cool work by you and Ed.

Thanks. It is indeed an honor to play with Buddy Whittington. I just played a gig with him a couple weeks ago.

Yes I know. We said something about rabbit ears the other day and the 24 year old didn't know what that was.

UPDATE

The bump of this post reminded me that I needed to incorporate rev D, which has a few minor drawing corrections.

Hey Terry,

Do you have a Thinline version?

Autocad if possible.

I'm not sure why I didn't dive into the PDF tool and make that puppy landscape in the first place.

No sir, I do not. There are plenty others that have made Thinlines, but I don't know if they had any CAD drawings for the cutout.

I always started from your templates, and then rotated it before I would work with it. So it was never a problem for me. But I like it better now...

Now, I'll have to add my mods to your updated template for my own use. The only thing I never found is the real dimension for the cutout in the thinline for the electronics.

Well folks, I'd like to thank the awesome jwells393 for helping me troubleshoot my scaling problem (as well as other issues). It appears the PDFs prior to revision D were not accurate when printed with no scaling. Somehow when I switched the PDF generator over from portrait to landscape at revision D, the scaling is now corrected.

I deleted the previous revisions on from my server. I don't know if any folks made templates from the PDFs, but I know several did from the AutoCAD DWG files (which were always accurate).

Here is the revision D PDF along with a link to the AutoCAD version 14 DXF file.

Thanks jelly tele and mag29. I hope you find it useful.

I removed all previous versions of the drawing from my website, and replaced the links to the the old versions within this post #176 above. I have received emails about missing files, so now I removed the stale links.

Wow! That's a beautiful blueprint. Thanks for sharing.

I've been looking for blueprints for quite sometime. Then I remembered I had a tdpri account and I found this topic in minutes.

You wouldn't happen to have a Strat print, would you?

Here's a Jpg Strat blueprint. You'd have to resize it get it to print actual size.
