Differences between Brass/Steel bridge saddles?

Hi All,
Am looking to buy an American Tele of some model, Highway One, American Standard or American Ash. I've never been a big fan of the vintage 3 saddle bridges, but see the Highway 1 and Lite Ash models both come with this. Have always liked the 6 saddle modern bridges the most. I am planning on trying out as many of these models as I can find, as my 50th Birthday is coming up in September, and my wife wants to know what she can get me. So, I want to pick something that will be special to both of us. I currently own 3 Fender Teles, 2 MIM Standards and the Deluxe Nashville. Also own 2 G&Ls, a Tribute ASAT Classic and an American ASAT 3 (with Leo's signature). Also own 2 Peavey Generation S-3's, both from 1991.
Are there any benefits comparing the vintage style/modern style bridges? What kind of Difference is there between steel and brass saddles? I'm leaning more towards the Highway 1 in 3 color Sunburst with maple fretboard, but the $200 difference in price between the Highway 1 and US Standard appears to be the Hardshell case versus gig bag, and the Poly/Nitro finish.
In the end, of course, the choice will be left up to me and my ears and fingers. But any input would be appreciated.
Been away from the forum for a while, but am glad to be back and around all you Tele Nuts!

Tom would you care to answer this gentleman's question for I dare not.

Try reading the debate in the link above. Most of your questions and thoughts will be further confused on this highly debatable subject.

Ohh...if you want the best there is try Glendale Guitars. They have many varieties and most of us all agree they are some of the best made. However not all of us agree. That is to say some of us agree that some of us do not agree................

Since I'll be reaching the same point as you in September, so I'm happy to wish you a happy birthday and congrats on the milestone!

As for all the rest, I have no comment.

(Nice try, Arlo!)

I generally prefer brass saddles on ash, but I'm pretty traditional Tele-wise.
Steel saddles give a nice "pop" to the attack. That 's cool too.
