How common is this?
Hey folks,
I just took my tele in for a set up and was surprised to find out that the neck had 4 extra holes in it. From what the tech was telling me, if the neck is replaced the holes are normally filled in (I'm not quite sure why). The problem with this is that I purchased it brand new about a year ago. He was saying that this wouldn't have happened at the factory because they would have put a new neck on if there was a problem. The bridge was also a problem because he had to extend the saddles as far as they would go forward (toward the pickups) so that it could be intonated properly. I'm just wondering if these are common problems from the factory or if my neighborhood guitar shop pulled one ever on me. Thanks. CC |

Hi Canuckcaster,
Doesn't sound good to me. It may no be quite as new as you thought it was. Can you take it back to where you bought it and ask them to explain? Bob

Maybe a tech in the store nedded a good neck to repair another guitar they sold that had a problem with intonation...
Or they needed the neck for any opther reason and installed another later. It has something they did in the store. Gilles

Sorry, it's a 06 MIM standard. Like I said it was brand new with all the stickers covers and labels on it. I would like to take it back to the shop but it has been a year since I purchased it.
Thanks for the replies, CC |

Reguardless if it's been a year since you bought it I would still take it in and ask them to explain. It's not like people go removing their guitar's necks within a store's normal return policy period. At least I wouldn't necessarily think to do that...
With the intonation thing, I had a MIM Tele that had a similar problem, the higher strings (E, B, G) had to have the saddles extended all the way out (towards the pickups) to get perfect or close to perfect intonation. I think part of the problem was that the bridge was slightly slanted (misaligned from the factory). However, I did catch this in time to return the guitar, and I did return it. They put it back on the floor for sale though, even though they new about the defect (I saw it in there a week or so after I returned it). So I don't put a whole lot of trust into the usually commissioned sales people at guitar stores. I really feel for you on this one. I would be pissed to find this out. I would definitely take it into the store and speak with a manager about it. If I managed a store that did that I would definitely consider your story as valid and do everything i could to fix it, reguardless if it had been a year. |

So it has extra holes in the neck ............ so what? Sounds to me like you don't have a real problem.

I trust this guitar tech. He's been doing this longer than I've been on the planet.(And I'm almost 38) I understand that the problem is in effect solved but I still feel that when you pay full price for a piece of gear that you should get what you pay for which was a brand new guitar. I feel ripped off. I guess I will have to go in to the shop and talk to them.
Thanks again for the replies. CC |

I would sure talk to the Shop where you bought it...in a reasoned calm manner of course....but that is NOT typical of a New MIM Standard Guitar....something sounds Fishy to me ???
