Finally bought a Valley Arts Brent Mason..

....guitar and, I gotta tell ya, this thing is really sweet. You can dial up any of the tones you want. I've been playing Tom Anderson guitars for about 4 years now, and I suspect that I will now be play this VA exclusively. If you have not checked one out, get out there and find one. It really is a great combination.

It is such a cool guitar. I know this sounds daft but I wish they did some other finishes, purely because I love the specs of the thing but I wouldn't feel comfortable, myself, with a complete replica of Brent's guitar, I'm not good enough to carry it off. I am envious of you though, it is a sweet sweet thing. Yours would be even sweeter still if you took lots of detailed photographs and posted them on this very thread.

List price is $3000. Most dealers sell them from 1800 - 2200. I found a store that had this one sice 2003....still waiting for someone like me to spy it. I got it for $1542.02!!

I do wish there were other colors available too. I don't mind the pewter, but I would probably like it better if it were gloss instead of matte.

That aside, it is really fun to play. The neck is a little larger than the stuff I am used to. It is really close to what a NoCaster neck feels like....not quite as large, but close.

Pics, Yeah I will try to get some up really soon. I have to put it down long enough to take some. :-)

Probably a really nice guitar and it should be for the prices they sell for. However how do they justify this ............. it has got to be one of the worst headstock designs I've ever seen. Just my opinion.

You may know I built my own:

It is an incredible guitar. Please excuse my playing, but this is a snip-it from a recording session I did a couple weeks ago. It sounds like a Tele with the bridge PU, but has the versatilely to sound like

this

with the neck mini HB.

Congratulations on your new guitar!!!!

Congrats to Larry on your new guitar.
Terry: Nice to hear this guitar after seeing all the pics and following the story of the build. Picked up another Squier Tele that I intend to use to do my own take on a "Brentacaster", thanks for the inspiration.

Thanks for the kind words

So, Larry, have you open the hood on that baby yet? Does it have 250K pots?

Here's a close rival for the worst headstock... TYLER, great guitars, but that confounded headstock...

You're right .......... that Tyler headstock is pretty bad. It's hell when all the good shapes are taken. USA Custom Guitar seems to have made just the slightest change in shaping their headstocks.

Sound good Terry. Is the Tele neck pickup in the middle position RW/RP with the bridge PU?

Thanks Pete. No, and there is no need for RW/RP as all the pickups are noise cancelling.

Larry,
I have a question. The VA specs and website says the push-pull switch changes the the middle puckup from parallel to series wiring of the coils. The VA I saw under the hood was actually wired so the switch went from from dual coil on the middle to single coil. You should be able to tell by playing the middle pickup only and switching the push-pull swith back and forth. There should be noticibly more hum in one position than the other.
