Allow myself to introduce..........myself

Soon to be Tele Noob. I've played exclusively Les Pauls and last year a friend gave me an entry level strat, so that got me on the fender bug. While in the guitar store one day I picked up a Tele and man I got the bug. My friend had a Tele way back when I started playing but I never gave it much thought. Apparently he didn't either and traded it for a strat. Anyway to the point, my boss (really a friend, he hates the whole boss thing) said that he would finance a Tele for me as a way of given me something extra for lots of little side jobs and stuff I help him with. He's offered to get me the AV52RI. He said if I wanted I could put in the difference for a 51 Nocaster, which is double the price. that would be a stretch for me. Anyway I've been bouncing back and forth between the two. I really like the NoC. but the neck is a little on the chunky side for me, but some of the other teles (not the 52) necks are a little too thin. I haven't yet found one to try out, so my question is, does the newer AV52RI have the same size neck as the NoC. according to Fender cust support it does,? or is the neck a little smaller than the NoC but bigger than the regular teles? sorry so long just wondering. thanks

joe

Ok, I know this doesn't answer your query at all but... is your "boss" hiring?

Welcome ...

... to the TDPRI, jabsalt! This is by far the best place on the internet and a must for any fan of the Telecaster. You'll like it here.

The best advice I could give you about the necks - go to a store and compare the two.

Best of luck with your Tele shopping, Joe!

Enjoy!

The 52RI is a little slimmer than the Nocaster but a little thicker than most other Tele models. Go to a Guitar Center, They should have one to try. The 52RI is a very good example of a classic Tele. - Jim

Thanks Guys

The 52 may be what I want, I'm trying to track one down to try it out. Being that it is in between the normal and chunky, that may be the ticket. cool forums, thanks again.

Don't forget to check out the thin skin ones! That link is merely to show you the guitar, I know nothing of the dealer and have no affiliation to any retailers.

Good luck with your quest, I'm sure you'll be thrilled with your tele.

So, did you have to pay the difference, or did the "boss" pick up the whole tab? I want your boss!

Cool guitar (and cool boss).
Welcome to the forum and to the whole telecaster thing.

You'll find that with the right amp setting and/or overdrive your tele will fatten up much like a les paul...and then with a gentler touch or a slight volume roll-off you're right back in the Fender sound. Amazing versatility from something designed nearly 60 years ago by a tone-deaf radio repairman.
Have fun.

thanks guys, I'm looking forward to some great times with this axe.

So, did you have to pay the difference, or did the "boss" pick up the whole tab? I want your boss!----------I picked up the difference, he said that he could only go so far financially. but it still came in under a grand out of my pocket, i call that a great deal.
