which tribute tele would you like to see next?
we have had Jeff Beck, SRV and Rory Gallagher tribute fender guitars (tribute as in perfect replica, not signature model) this has got me thinking, what other teles would sell successfully as tribute models? My instant thought from watching an 'Oklahoma borderline' video the other day was that a Vince Gill tribute relic tele would probably sell extremely well as long as they kept it well under $5000/£3000.
I also think after seeing a demo video of his signature valley arts guitar that a Reliced Tribute model of Brent Mason's ORIGINAL primer tele (complete with b-bender etc) would be immense how about roy Buchanan tribute 'nancy' relic?? how about a luther perkins tele/esquire? how about a properly accurate-in-all-respects leather covered wayloncaster?? I know fender are capable of this perfect reproduction. I think in rory Gallagher's tribute model they even included the plastic dot marker at the 12th fret. And the relicing on the Jeff Beck esquire looks perfect. so how about it? what do you all think? are there any others that you think deserve having a tribute model made? maybe even fender will take notice of us! and no this is NOT a relic discussion thread |

I'd like to see a Jim Campilongo series (and I would like to see a lefthanded model for a change...)

Someone mentioned Dave Gilmour a while back, but there didn't seem to be much distinctive about his Strats other than using non-Fender pick-ups (guess that wouldn't fly).
Was there anything distinctively non-stock about Luther's Esquires?

How about a Leo Fender tribute tele?
Just been reading the Duchoissoir book, and wouldn't it be funky to see the original prototype in limited form? The old lapsteel wide neck and kluson 3-a-side pegs? Esquire style single pick-up, with the (almost strat like) control plate? If you're gonna tribute, you gotta tribute Leo! Gerry

no disrespect to those who enjoy tribute guitars. I find that they they are always overrated (Tom Delong strat, Kirt Cobain Jagstang, etc) and/or overpriced (Andy Summers Tele). I do appreciate those who make their own replicas.

yes. exaxctly the reason why i stated tribute guitars not 'signature' so we can avoid the standard yawn-isms of tom delonge and kurt cobain debates. this thread isnt about how good the teles might be, just about who YOU would like to see get a tribute model tele. Signature models are being thrown around willy-nilly these days especially by fender, usually just to cash in to a certain demographic. but the tribute series has always interested me and I think people on here would only buy a $5000 tribute guitar if it REALLY meant something to them. That's what I was just interested in establishing, who realy DESERVES a tribute model. be that because of their talent or playing ability, or maybe because their particular tele is iconic. |

Fender doesn't make tribute guitars for anyone who wasn't enormously popular.
I can't think of anyone who sells a lot of records, who I'd want a tribute Tele for. My feeling is, move on, and do something else. Build a Tele based on your own needs. Pete |

I would love to see a Buck Owens/Don Rich Tribute. The silver flake with checkboard trim one.
