Japan Tele I'm looking into

Someone I know is selling this Tele for $550-- I don't know a ton about the Japan Teles, and I haven't seen this one up close yet. I looked up the SN and it is from 1988-89 (read somewhere that pre-1988 MIJ are better - is that true?)
Please give me your take on this offering -- appreciate it...

===============================================
Made in Japan mid-80s - maple neck. Shows minor wear, plays and sounds excellent. With original Fender-HSC.

Can you post better pictures? Can't tell from those if it's a Fender or a Squier.

Yeah - sorry -- that's all I got, and that's all I know about it...
I know you can look up the year, but is there a place to look up the particular model with the Serial#?

It is an MIJ STD Same as the MIM STD as far as quality. YOu can tell by the tuners and string tree as they arent the vintage ones.

If it was the vintage spec MIJ it would be worth $550 easy but the STD is worth was less $200-250 tops same as a used MIM STD.

thats a top loader?... the price is too high. Not that theres anything wrong with top loaders...but generally, when it comes to FJ...those are their lowest end models.

There's a few of these over here in Taiwan. I've got to say that there not that good. You may have to do a few mods to it if you want to make it a player. You would be better off moving on and having a look at the next one. (IMHO)
