Nice!
I will probably pull the trigger on the guitar that I want. It is a limited edition Tele and the dealer won't get the first delivery until June. I think I can save my pennies until then, even if it is nuts. There WILL be pictures when this happens!!!!! |

I think I paid nearly a grand for my copper 52RI.
It seems that you can get a lot of guitar for 500-600 these days. Even with the paint, the Martycaster came in right around there...but I do a lot of the "grunt" work myself...and own the tools...neither of which figure into that price. I think maybe...just maybe...if I pulled something down off of the wall...and we got along REALLY well, the self-imposed upper limit might go up to maybe a couple of grand. I used to do acoustic guitars...and kids, 2K around those is chump change!

Worth Every Penny.
Well almost ten years ago when I was ten years younger and was ripping around like a nut case on my Kawisaki, I reached a point in my life that the guitar thing was more important to me than the two wheeled thing, and alot safer I might add. So I sold my 15 year passion to invest the money into a different passion, I was hell bent on spending every penny of it on a guitar nothing at all towards an outstanding bill or the like. Hobby money was staying hobby money, so I went the way of a Custom Shop "Tele". Best thing I ever did, got what I wanted but it cost me $5000.00 Can. The way I look at it is, when I truly want something price is of no cocern, especially when it's a one of a kind. To me 5K is nothing to spend on something I love to do and will have for the rest of my life. Just think I could of blown it on an 11 day European cruise, and got what for it? Exactly a tan that will fade away in 2 weeks.

Does $1000 sound like a good deal for a brand new Fender USA spruce-top chambered tele? It is b-stock with the only issues being the input jack will not lock the 1/4" plug in place and the nut needs a little work.
I can't decide about keeping it... Anybody have one of these? |

I probably couldn't justify spending more than £600 on a Tele. This is after all something that was designed to be easy to mass produce (and let's face it, still is mass produced, wherever it's made), and affordable for working musicians.
That's part of the beauty of it for me, the fact that when you're buying a Tele you don't have to spend a shed load of cash to get a great guitar. That's just an opinion though, and once you get your heart set on something, whose to tell you not to go for it?! (In my case, that would be my wife!!) |

The absolute max for me would be around $1,000. The most I've actually spent on any of my Teles was $700 for my '72 Tele Deluxe RI. The most I have (and will ever) spend on a guitar is $1,400, for my 2006 Ampeg Dan Armstrong Plexi RI. There are many guitars available these days for very inexpensive prices. I know this, that's why I own 23 guitars!

Good question, with my income I guess my limit would be $500-$800. But keep in mind, if my income went up, so would my limit. You can't put a price on the things you love. I just wish I had the talent that so many of you have who can build your own guitars. I love my guitars, but I can't imagine the satisfaction of building one.

In 1996, I paid 2400 for my collings D2H and told myself that was my limit. I kept my word..kind of
My gatton was 2350.00 and three years later i traded that and 500.00 for my 58 relic. So my 58 was 2850 but not all at once :). Long story short...2400.00 If you get it i would like to see it...good luck! |

If we are talking FENDER the only tele you can buy for $500 or less is the cheapest, the MIM standard. There is no other FENDER tele under $500. Are you saying a MIM standard is all the Tele you will need or don't buy from FENDER?

I need $1,920 for the butterscotch one I want now. And $1,060 for the blonde one I want. And $525 for the black one I want plus some cash to paint it non-black. Oh, and $800 for a Baja.
So how long do money trees take to produce fruit?

If the budget doesn't matter...then I'd buy whatever i wanted. regardless of if it was 10,000.00 or 100.00. I think the budget is sometimes the only thing that stops us from buying the guitar we want.

Can you imagine if this thread said, "What's the most you'd be willing to pay for a new Les Paul Standard"? Worlds apart. We Tele players are some cheapies with shallow pockets.

Although I can see paying $3 or 4K to get EXACTLY what you want, you can get a lot of Tele for under $1000.
Put me down for $1000

I'm not really big on the expensive guitars myself. I've got $700 dollars in my pedalboard or so but if I would buy a cheaper guitar and a nicer amp. Most people on this forum are gonna upgrade their pups anyway... If you plan on that then why are you going to spend that kind of money on a guitar anyway? I'm sure that will change when I have more money though.
My $0.02. |
