nocaster advise please

I found a Nocater NOS at a dealer however it has 2 dents on the bottom back of it. I can't find one anywhere else except Ebay and I really want this guitar. The salesman said that "it fell of the guitar rack" sounds crazy doesn't it! What kind of discount should I be asking for something like this??

Not sure of the Canadian/American exchange rate, but i would offer 1400 cash with tax. If you have to use a credit card say 1500.00 + tax

good luck..great guitars

i'm surprised they just don't scratch out the "NOS" on the COA and write "Relic"

Those two dents will be the first two dents you don't have to put in it. So you can play it and not have to worry about the "first ding". I think that makes sense? Buy it. :-)

If you plan to actually gig with the guitar, this makes perfect sense. Guitars that get played get nicks.

You said yourself that you really want this guitar. I can really relate to that because I own my Nocaster (Relic) because of how we immediately connected. To this day it is flat out the best Tele I have ever played.

You will forever regret it if you let a guitar that speaks to you like this get away. Your thinking is correct that some discount is in order, but it is still 100% the Nocaster it ever was. It just already has those couple of first boinks. Give the merchant a chance to do you a favor and discount it for you. I find that usually works better than the ultimatum approach. That doesn't mean you should necessarily pounce on his first offer. I believe that $1500 USD would be quite a bargain. I paid $1785 USD (tax & all) in 2000 for a used '99 model that didn't have the original thermometer case (I got a case, just not the original). Not a moment since have I regretted my decision to follow that urge. Heck, events like that are the good moments in life.

I don't see any mention of how much the seller is asking, but if it's new, I think it would be stretch to get it for 1500. I'm guessing 10%-15% off the normal "discount" street price would put it right at his cost. I also own a Nocaster --a 2006 model that I got for 1500 + tax used (only for 3 months), and I bought it because I connected with it. They were asking $1800 and I was prepared to pay that, but I know the salesman and he did me right without my asking. Like the others have said, it's the best Tele model around and it just keeps getting better, so I would give the guy a chance to discount it, but if you like it, buy it.

First - understand that these guitars will chip and dent very easily compared to others. That has been my experience.

I would be happy to get a pristine NOS for $1900. For those two major dings they should knock off at least $150, but its very subjective. I live in an area where it would be extremely rare to find a Nocaster hanging in a shop.

Of the four that I own, I bought one from a dealer's web site, and the other three from eBay. I have been extremely happy with all of them.

When you say you can't find one anywhere else except eBay, is that including dealer's sites? I can give you half a dozen places to look at.

Guitars that get played get nicked? Remind me not to lend you any of mine!!!

Ask for a couple hundred off and haggle. Ask for a store credit - it costs them less, so you can get more.

Yep, sooner or later a booboo happens. Guitars are tools.

I take good care of my guitars and never deliberately abuse or neglect them, but life happens to them if you gig with them.

A FENDER rep once told me , when I worked for a *LARGE* music store in Dallas, Fender dealers can sell any fender item for 65% of the MSRP. I have had to haggle and walk towards the door with my money still in my wallet. ONLY ONCE did the dept. mgr. not follow me outside or stop me at the door and say ok. You can't beat 'em on the sales tax at this price, but who cares. 35% off is a significant amount when the MSRP is over 2 grand! Gotta be a ruthless buyer and not be drooling on the instrument in question when approached by mgt, tho'
Those two dings are about $100USD off in my opinion.
