Did Fender make a 62 RI in the 80's??

and if so, what years?

Yes and no... MIJ '62 RIs have been in production since the mid-eighties. The current MIA Vintage series '62 RIs were introduced within the last 5 years.

I have a '62 MIJ reissue that I bought used in 1991 and it was pretty well worn then so I assume it was born in the 1980s. It is honestly the best overall Telecaster I've ever owned or played and I've not modified it at all beyond a fret job and stripping the finish off the neck. It is a Bakersfield-sound machine.
