Vintage Fender Electric Mandolins
I've been bouncing the idea of acquiring or building a replica of one for a couple of years and every time I listen to any Western Swing with Tiny Moore playing I get to thinking. Seeing vintage pieces selling for a couple of grand makes a reasonable man think about building one of his own. Does anyone have experience with a true vintage instrument or have any suggestions concerning getting the parts together to try and build one? I've contacted USACG about producing the wood. Should I wait till the mood passes? Thanks for any feedback.

Maybe these guys have the answer;

My other favorite site. Heard good things about the Epiphone Mandobird; I know it's not the same thing(4 string and ugly) but at $200 you may be able to test out yer electric chops.

I had a 1956 Fender Electric Mandolin that I sold when I needed some $$$. Got nostalgic for it a couple of weeks ago and I was online and did a search for mandocaster. The first result was from a guy named Jim Bevan who plays with Cirque de Soleil. I'm reading about his Mando's and scroll down to a picture of them and froze.... there was my old Fender Electric Mandolin. How do I know? The original owner had drilled a small hole in the headstock to hang it on his wall. (That hole, BTW, cost me $200 when I sold it). I emailed Jim and sure enough, it used to be mine!
How bizarre that the first results on a Yahoo! search turn up my old mandocaster! weird... I have a '60 parts-o-mando-caster now. 60 neck, repro pickguard and Duncan mando pickup- carved the body myself and sprayed it ocean turquoise. Billy
