Is This Ugly?

I am considering getting with warmoth on this, but I am un-decided... ugly or sexy?

I wouldn't say its ugly, its just not my cup of tea. That's a love it or hate it kind of design and if you love it.... go for it. Sexy is totally in the eyes of the beholder and its good to be controversial if you want to get somebody's attention. It certainly is eye catching no matter if you like it or not.

I'm pretty sure that if you get on stage with that someday you better be a really good player, because all eyes are going to be on you.

Actually what I do like most about it is that it manages to be a guitar that could spark as much conversation (pro and con) as the John 5 Telecasters, without having a headstock that looks like a rock n' roll spatula.

i wasn't gonna vote in this poll, cuz i think it's in a class outside "sexy" and "ugly" -- "unique" would work. but after reconsideration, i'm gonna vote "sexy" ... this axe wouldn't work for everybody, but if you can sling it and look good, it's a stunning design. nitpick: what would it look like without the painted headstock?

First of all...beauty is in te eye of the beholder (it's so cliche, I know)...

Personally, that wouldn't be my cup of tea....but on the other hand, the tele's I'm attracted to are ones that stand out from the crowd and are a little different (I have a candy tangerine and sherwood green metallic tele, and neither of those are winning any popularity contests). I'm not saying that I wouldn't or won't someday own some traditional colored teles, either, I love those too. I want a 52 real bad (and the new hot rod isn't helping)...

If that looks awesome to you, then it is awesome. You'll love that guitar and love it on stage and it will come through in your playing. Rock on!

If my opinion is worth anything: put a black pickguard (or pearloid) on it and top it off with traditional tele controls and I bet the love will come in. Add a touch of transparency (so we can see a hint of the wood grain) and some will gush.

By all means...make it how YOU like it. That's what's important. When I told my bandmates I was getting an orange guitar, they thought I was nuts. Since then, the bassist has an amber bass and the drummer has an amber kit. Set your own trend and be yourself. I'd rather have an invisible tele than no tele at all.

One of the reason I love reading this forum, outright honesty. I am leaning to doing it, maybe the headstock is what has been looking not so right in my mind.

it looks like it would be great if done just right. i think i have to agree about the headstock, it makes the natural color of the neck stand out too much.

Seriously, whatever looks good to you is what you should do. Vibe is an important part of any guitar. It's fun to ask opinions and it's fun to post them.

BUT

You could have the ugliest guitar in the world to me, but if you love it...you will love it.

Furthermore, what makes this forum so great is everyone seems to get that.

I think I'd like it better with an ebony board w/ pearl dots... and maybe a pearl inlay on the headstock or lose the painted headstock altogether...
But what do I know? What do you think?

It wouldn't be ugly, if you'd just paint the body a solid color. Any color.

The body is too white for my taste. It's too much constrast.

But just a touch of a light color would be better... for me.

I don't have problems with the neck or the headstock color.

It's got potential, but I really don't like that white burst. A solid colour or even a much more subtle burst of some sort would suit better. Transparent black in the center and solid black edges, perhaps?
Just my opinion, though. It'll be your guitar.

I like it. The painted headstock isn't my bag but I'd keep it if someone gave it to me. It's definitely unique. +1 for sexy.

I thought about that after I designed them lol, guess I have to work a 5 way in there somehow. I put a standard control plate on there but it seemed odd laying over the burst. Thanks for all the input guys, I am enjoying this very much.

Well, I really like it. It's not your everday everybody has one type of tele. I do think that the headstock would look better if it were a light shade of gray like the body.

Ugly. Hideous! But..who cares what we think? If it's just a matter of opinion, then yours is really the only one that matters. If you're going to try to sell it....ugly. If it's just for you, just right. I also think Antigua color schemes are like baby-poop colored teles. But they're neat because they're unique.

My suggestion: That would look completely awesome if the colors had some sparkle to them. Metallic silver to metallic black - SMOKIN'!
