New tele owner, questions

Im a long time player since early age, sicne 7 to eb exact. Owning a standard les paul, gibson sg, john mayer strat i found myself in the way of getting a tele. I ordered a 52 telecaster and have a few questions.
1. Is the top pickup suppose to be alot lower in sound when the tone nob is turned up?
2. Is the sound suppose to be "muffled" per say?

Yes, that's the way the neck pickup is supposed to sound, that's the way they did "back in the day". The guitar should have come with a wiring diagram and a capacitor for upgrading it to a more modern sound and the use of both pickups with the switch in the middle position.

CONGRATS on your first ( but most likely not last) TELECASTER
Did you get another switch and wiring diagram with your '52 RI? The original circuit is very bassy sounding. Since you've been playing a LONG time you probably do your own tech work. Just yank that old style stuff and put it in a ziplock and throw it in the pocket of your gig bag or case. DON"T despair, there's nothin' probably wrong with your new axe. Check out the Archives here or Fender.com for wiring diagrams
