happy birthday John Frusciante!

This came one day too late, his 37th birthday was yesterday- 5th march. Just thought I should say a huge happy birthday to a creative musical genius, and telecaster picker of the highest order. John is probably more well known for using a strat, but that tight funky picking on 'around the world', 'give it away' and 'if you have to ask' etc is pure tele tone. He said in an interview not so long ago that the Telecaster is 'the quintessential guitar tone i hear in my head. It's that sound I feel' so without further ado here is a picture of John with his gorgeous '63 sunburst tele:

A truly awesome and influential musical figure.

I would have to agree with you. I'm always looking forward to what he'll come up with next. The man is very talented and a top notch guitar player.

I was watching him do a live version of "Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magik" on YouTube yesterday. What a great track (that I totally forgot about)!
He is a a top notch artist in my book.

RIght now, I would have to admit that John is my biggest musical inspiration. I just can't get enough of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, probably my all-time favorite band since I was about 9 or 10.

I'm really glad that John has shifted from guitar minimalist to super guitar hero.

Happy Birthday John!!!

Frusciante has always been one of my favourite guitarists, he's had his rough patches but always pulls it together. His awesome funk playing has inspired my playing to no end.

Happy Birthday!

I love frusciante, he is my musical inspiration. His minimalist playing style blends in totally well with the bass runs by flea and the drumming by chad.

i noticed he tapes the top of his 2 teles where his arm rests.

His picking on songs such as throw away your television, Parallel universe, can't stop are sublime.

It's a wonder he made it to his 37th.

I'm glad he got the help he needed to get that monkey off his back. He sure has made a lot of folks happy with his playing.

Underrated for sure, I'm just now starting to take a peek at his "portfolio", and I'm impressed!

No doubt. RHCP were not the same with Navarro, and I think some of there best stuff has been recorded since he came back!! Love his playing, while it sounds "minimalist" as mentioned above, it can really be quite complex yet sound simple. Happy bday Froosh!

I can't actually say I am a huge fan of all their music, I find a lot of it (californication and by the way etc) way too middle of the road and boring. However, i did see them at hyde park (i was front row- 8 or 9 metres away from john) and they were sublime. One of the best gigs I have ever been to. I am mainly just a fan of John's impeccable guitar picking, particularly on the near-perfect 'bloodsugarsexmajik' album. I have more respect for the guy than I could have for any one band, including the whole of the chilli peppers. His solo work is superb also.

like them or not, the chillis and all their members (no innuendo intended ) are incredibly influential to music today. <3 john

Their live stuff are super.
I especially like when he does his solos different from the albums.

I had the pleasure of seeing RHCP in Phoenix last August. It was, hands down, the best live music I've ever heard or seen. John no longer just has that "I'll just play something while Flea carries the song" attitude. His playing seriously reminded me of Jimi Hendrix.

And those who haven't seen them live don't know. THEY JAM!!! They don't just come out and play their 3 or 4 minute songs and move on. THEY JAM!!!

The encore was absolutly amazing. They came out and played Under the Bridge followed by Give it Away. Then Anthony left but everybody else stayed and just jammed for like 45 minutes.

And those who don't get the Chilis, whats not to get?
They're just a band trying to get you to move your feet with the funkiest music since P-Funk.

Their jamming on stage is one of the reasons why their live act is that good to watch.

A few years back during their by the way tour, live at slane castle, the 1 min ++ intro before californication is just... orgasmic.
