Poll: How do you wear your Tele?
Maybe I'm just an old-fashioned geezer, but when I play I wear my Tele pretty high at chest level. I was sitting around today wondering how everyone else holds their Tele when playing. Are some like me and Gerry Marsden of Gerry & the Pacemakers, or are you waist level. Then again you could be one of those who play below the waist and maybe even below crotch a la Keef and others. I could never play my guitar that low. My eyesight's too bad to see the fretboard!!!

I'd like to sling it low that I can play it at my knees. I'm a big guy and can't find a strap long enough.

I adjust my strap so that my Tele is positioned the same as if it was sitting in my lap - just feels natural...
Thats pretty high I figure. I just can play a guitar slung low (its fine if you wanna slash away at powerchords, no offence intended...) Cheers, Adam |

It's an age thing (I think)
Seems like it gets higher as the years go by... I guess I care more about how I sound than how I look. Low slung is cool lookin', but I can reach everything better when I get it up around high waist-level.

relatively high, I guess...
I chose "chest high like Gerry Mardsen", but to be totally accurate, I'd probably say "just above my belly". I wear it a little bit higher than it would be on my lap while sitting down. My wrists give me fits if I wear it any lower!

Mine lives just a little lower than Ole Fuzzy's up there ^^.
...on a plain black Levys strap. The same model strap adorns the P-bass, just a little lower still.

High, like Roy Buchanan
For me, it's just easier to play. 8)

You guys missed the question
Since my Tele is black/blackguard and maple fretboard, I wear my tele with a tuxedo t-shirt and black jeans (not too faded. Really dark sunglasses and top hat optional.
There that's the answer. Ask Dale for all your Tele Ensemble questions.

I used to wear my guitar so low that the full extension of my arm would just clear the strings. Since then I learned how to play a bit more - despite my best efforts.
Now I like to position my Tele so that the top strap button is about level with my belt buckle, and the bridge pickup is about crotch-level. That seems to work best for me. I hold no negetive judgement against those who glue their guitars to their necks.

I play mine in exactly the same spot as Ben, maybe an inch higher.
I am really wishing that teles were short scale about know because I have short arms and sing whilst attempting to play. |

Used to a low slinger...Jimmy Page style
when I was in high school and in a punk band.
but when I learned barre chords it started to become painful. So I moved up to waist level, strings directly above the belt.

Dale: Great response!!
Never thought of it that way, but you've got a point. Interesting to see most players here wear the Tele at waist height. I used to years ago, but as I've gotten older it seems to have creeped up. I guess I'm around the same place Ol' Fuzzy plays. Having short arms also makes it more difficult to play lower. If I get any older I'll be playing it under my neck, like a violin!!
I dunno how Keef does it, must have really long arms. |

The bottom of my Tele rests right above my belt buckle. (Normal buckle, not a rodeo type). This seems pretty comfy. I used to hold the LP with the middle of the back, centered with my buckle, shirt untucked. I've grown to prefer the position closest to where it hangs while sitting down. This keeps everything in tact...
