Greatest moments in Tele history

As defined by you.

I'll get the ball rolling -
- Stairway to Heaven solo
- Bloomfield helps Dylan go electric
- Born to Run cover
- Rosewood tele appears on rooftop of Beatles' Apple HQ
- Keef puts a humbucker in Micawber
- B.B. plays one (see avatar - why'd he ever switch?)

There's a shot in the Clash video for Should I Stay or Should I Go at the end where Strummer takes off his Tele and without really looking, just tosses it to someone on the side of the stage. I always thought that that act had a lot of the rebellious spirit that in my minimally functional brain sets Tele's apart from other insturments.

How could I forget - Muddy paints his Tele candy apple red and switches the chrome knobs to amp knobs. (I own a Muddy for gosh sakes...)

I kinda like the moment when Mike Bloomfield heads into the studio to record Bringing It All Back Home with Bob Dylan.
It's a snowy day, and he's been carrying his Tele around without a case. He comes into the studio, wipes his feet, and knocks the guitar against the door jamb to get the snow off it.
And then proceeds to lay down some of the most important electric guitar parts in popular music history.

best
Allen

I thought I read somewhere that they needed a guitar for the picture, and that was the only one they could find. Still a cool pic, though

I read somewhere he used one on some of his early 50s recordings and on the road in 1951...

1985 when william Shultz led an Employee revolt and bought out CBS and stuck two finges up at the dark days. The Telecaster etc has never looked back!

Not allowed?
It's only a nono when it's not your own Telecaster.

...and it proves what?

James Burton playing "Hello Mary Lou" with that Ricky Nelson.

Hearing that was an epiphany for me.

As far as building the guitars...how about the day that Fender decided a Telecaster could be painted ANY color. ANY color at all!

The day Tadeo Gomez came into work, stood over the belt sander with a piece of maple in his hands, and shaped his first neck.

I thank him every time I pick up my Tele with the initials "TG" on the neck.

When danny gatton started "hot roding" his 53 with different knobs, pickups, pot values for wah effects and vol swells, angled saddles, etc. Helped the whole boutique tele parts find a market and start.

Of course, a later Tele Custom built by Fender had a 'bucker already built in.

I've heard that story, too. For the Highway 61 Revisited sessions, right? Dylan told Bloomfield not to play any of that B.B. King sh*t. As a huge fan of Dylan, Bloomfield, and B.B., I just love that story...

I should have written: Fender Custom Telecaster (not Telecaster Custom). I owned one in the sixties, I bought it 1966, a 1960 if I remember, it was stolen in the late seventies - that was a wonderful guitar.

I can't resist mentioning that Andy Summers of the Police dropped a 'bucker in a Fender Custom Telecaster. Oh, the humanity! Now there's a player that doesn't sound at all like he's playing a Tele!

I guess I just like Teles of all shapes and sizes. Own a traditional one and a buckered one as well. Wouldn't part with either...

A Humbucker in a Custom Telecaster ?
