my kid says my Tele sounds "weird"!

he's 21, and he's gotten pretty good at recording in his bedroom studio w/ lots of old hand-me-down MIDI and early-digital gear.

Usually he uses an old '68 Strat, but since that is currently tuned to open-G (and the whammy is a floater, thus making re-tuning slow and painful!) he asked could he use my '68 Tele.

After an hour he came down and said "that guitar sounds weird!"

Apparently playing chords up the neck it goes out of tune. I said: "when did you ever see me play chords up there !! ??"

There's a fret loose on the high-E at the 18th, so sometimes you get unexpected high notes. I said: "why you want to play around up there anyway !! ??"

He said (in his typically erudite fashion - you wouldn't believe he went to a recording arts school!!): "there's some kinda weird like.... harmonics .... happening on some chords...."

I guess maybe it's time for a set-up! I have only played it unplugged for the last 6 years. I remember it was always a mess trying to get it in tune in the studio. Maybe it's time for a set of compensated saddles..... or one of them Earvana nuts....

Fuzz - it ain't easy to plug in over here. The Dutch public is NOT looking for 52 year-old Telecaster pickers (unless they play blooze-rock or classic hits of the 70's) and the houses don't have big old garages like you got!

I understand, I live in an apartment. So here at home I can't plug in and destroy ears like I want to. My suggestion is to go into the bathroom and let er rip until you get shut down, the guitar that is.
