Dating a fairly recent MIJ...

Is there any other way than the serial? Any date stamps like on the old US guitars? Haven't dismantled either of mine yet, and not sure I want to, but this kind of thing makes me itch! If there's nothing else to look for, I'll put the screwdriver away...

For what it's worth...

My 1998 CIJ Classic '50s Telecaster has a "month/year" stamp on the heel of the neck.
Now, can you resist looking..? :)

Try this...

Here's the list for MIA, MIM, and MIJ
In this case, I think the serial is the way to go.

mine from the 80`s have the date penciled in on the neck butt. No danger looking if you`re careful. You know you wanna.

Dennis, I have a '90s MIJ JD Tele neck on my parts-o-caster and I need to change strings. I also have threaded inserts so removing my neck is no problem at all.

Any interest in knowing what my neck (only, I don't have a JD body) has on it before you remove yours?
