Yes...a look at the headstock...
Like Mike, I always wondered about Callaham's overall look. That's a beautiful guitar, just like I hope to have built for me someday...same colors, equipment...exactly.
But I'll have Bill Crook build mine

High priced Teles
I'll tell you what - that's is a GREAT looking guitar. I would love to own it. I do not doubt it's superior quality workmanship for one moment.
So that brings this question to mind. Where is the breaking point in dollars for purchasing a new instrument versus a parts-caster? Their asking over $2k for that Callaham. A person could certainly get with USACG and others, and piece a guitar together, with as good of parts, for much less. I'm thinking I could put together one indentical to that one, and take it to a local guy that does superior fret-work, and have it play like butter...for around $1000 or so...maybe a little more. I don't know...what do you think? |

I did it
I built a Tele with Warmoth body and neck, Fralin pickups, and the Callaham hardware. I did the finish myself with the Reranch stuff. Had a local guy do the frets, and bingo: a super nice Tele.
I found the body and neck on the Warmoth "thrift shop", and the Fralins on ebay. From bare wood to plugging in and playing it cost about $800. She's super light and sounds perfect. I don't know if it can hang with a real Callaham, but it more than hangs with any of the new Fenders in the local store....

The starting bid is only $5 off the new base price! Buy it now is way over Callaham's new price. Which may explain why there are no bids with 5 minutes left.. I guess there's a wait time and the seller is hoping someone will pay to avoid that.
