Carved top teles

Are there any out there? Any worth avoiding, and any worth selling the firstborn for? I'm looking for something with a pair of buckers ideally.

USACG?

If you'd consider a partscaster, USACG builds carved top bodies.

I just visited the web site but can't find all the info on carved tops that used to be there. The only reference I can see is in the third box on the pricing page:

+1

Most of what gives a tele it's character is it's slab-board (flat top) body and it's single coils. The opposite of that would be a carved top and dual humbuckers. Wich sounds like a PRS or an LP. Both are awesome instruments that have obviously withstood the test of time. But what you're asking is the equivilent of someone asking for a flat-top LP with two single coils.

What's wrong with that idea?

That Huber Tele is nice, I have always wanted to recess the control plate on my Teles. I am also a sucker for natural binding, very classy.

For a couple of years Fender offered a carved top / dual bucker / set neck MIK Squier Tele. Don't think they make them any more

I did a quick search on ebay and found this one, Squier Telecaster Deluxe

I picked up the set neck, carved top Squire Tele Deluxe and it is a very nice tele. Coil tap, set bridge, 3 way, RW board. A suprisingly good sounding tele for little $$$. The mahogany body and neck make it a light little sucker with very nice sustain and tone. Mine is a blue sparkle, including the back of the neck and headstock, very good construction and finish work. All the hard ware is black which sets off the blue sparkle nicely.

The older makes of the Peavey Generation had carved tops. I had one and it was a nice guitar! It originally came with pups that were a knock off of lace sensors and they got swapped out. All in all it was a well made, nice playing, reasonably priced, MIA guitar. Even with the added cost of swapping pickups it was a great buy. If you can find an older one jump on it. Mine was from the late 80's or early 90's.

You guys knew this was coming.

About 7 years ago I built my own. There were none available.

This guitar features 1" quartersawn mahogany

5/8" book matched maple top

Some PRS inspired contours

Gibson SG style control layout

Ibanez style recessed knobs

and P90s!

It's my #1 rock guitar. Big, fat Les Paul vibe.

Sweet-looking guitar, Bob! I'm sure it's got the LP "mojo"!

As for me, I don't know about a carve-top, but a Tele with "comfort contours" would be good-enough for me...

Confort contours and 1/2" radius would do the job...

I know because the one I did does't look like a Tele because of that.

Aerodyne

I think the Aerodyne Tele counts as a carved top. Its not flat anyway.

The Aerodyne Tele has carved top and bottom, and a soapbar in the neck to boot. Comes in any color you like as long as it's black, with a matching headstock. Schweeeetttt!

A shop down the street from me has a Peavey Generation Series carved-top Tele-style axe. The body in fact is mahogony. The current line from Peavey has pick-guards ... this one must be a few years older.

Looks very nice -- and Joe set it up so it plays well too. It has one bucker in the bridge position if I recall correctly.

well Squier doesn't, but Fender does:

i've got one and it is sweet. feels like a fender, light as a SG, sounds like a Les Paul (and like one with P-90s with the coil split) it doesn't sound like a tele at all, but that ain't why i bought it. its a gibson in fender clothing, and i like this guitar a lot.

We discussed this guitar a few months ago. I think it was decided that it has faux binding.

That's the model I had... carved top without a guard, bridge bucker w/ split, single coil neck. Real nice guitar. Looks just like the PV Steve Cropper Model.
