You'll find a few threads on here about this model. I've had mine since '05. It needed some pro set up work. The bridge pup is the most crucial element of the Tele IMHO, so I put a nice Duncan in there, and the original pickguard was sloppy, so I changed that too. It had to be custom made. My bridge and saddles are upgraded too.
I like it now, but if I had to do it again, I'd just get a US Tele because the upgrades were expensive. I paid $500 for the guitar and that was cost, about $200 for the new parts total and another $60 for so for the set up. The tuners are fine but one had to be replaced because the post was higher than the others. Fender sent me one for free. I don't have a problem with the three bolt neck, but I don't wank on it either.

Like Steph I love mine. Got it for $575 used with a Seymor Duncan Hot Stack single coil in the bridge position. I spent another $50 for a setup have played around with good strings ranging from 9s to 11s (I'm settling into a 10 set nowadays).
The guitar's construction is excellent, and the smooth poly maple neck is a joy to play and a treat to admire. The pros at the luthier shop liked it and didn't really have any recommendations for upgrades short of a true bone nut. Check my photo to the left if you want a slightly better pic. Looks almost like Steph's true '72 I think. Not many choices in finishes through.

I love my '72 Custom RI MIM. I've had it since '04. I got it for $360 at a GC in Washington State. It had a few scratches that helped me bring the price down. I buffed the scratches out the same day I bought it. I also refinished the neck because I don't care for the plastic-y feel of the Fender finish. I switched the humbucker controls to 500K pots this last weekend. It's a great little guitar...pretty much my #1 lately.

It was #1 before my Muddy...

I've had mine about 6 months. Paid $450.00 for it. It had brass comp saddles on it. I love the feel of the guitar. I need to replace the pot for the bucker. Its way too muddy for my tastes. I think for anyone else's too. I had to do some fret work to it. Its sunburst with a rosewood neck. I fell in love the minute I saw it. I need to take a few pics so I can show you.
