Anyone live in snowy conditions?

Me and a couple of friends are in lake tahoe right about now, just got out of our 4 hour drive...staying in his dad's cabin up on kilborn st., nice place...we brought our gear for a sorta photoshoot, but i was just wanted to ask about anything i shold beware of, it sounded so stupid, i wan't about to put my brand new tele in snow, my friend brought his lp standard, heavy guitar, im worried bout it sinking...If yo ulive in snowy conditions, please show pictures of your guitar with snow in background or on snow please.

If you really want to stick your gear out in the cold, I'd try using some winter props to support the guitar like skis, poles, snowshoes, even a snow coat. The snow or water shouldn't hurt anything but cold temps may have an affect.

Snow creates high reflection, and high contrast. Pay attention to your exposure because the bright white background will trick your light meter.

I live in snowy conditions here in Alaska and have been a photographer for several years but... I have NEver thought about sticking (or laying) any of my guitars in the snow for pictures! It just don't sound like a good idea. You can do so much with "PhotoShop" type applications these days, I would keep my guitars warm with an inside shoot, then super impose on a snow scene. That is unless you are after an instant surface "checking" on your guitars. Just sayin'...

Yeah, the Great Plains. Last week is was ice. This week - snow. Not really too bad but as I spent the past 15 years in the southwest corner of Mississippi my standards for what constitutes a "snow storm" are pretty low.

Too bad you didn't ask two weeks ago ............ had 13 inches of fresh snow then. It was the biggest snow storm in Albuquerque's recorded history.

Snow is wet. Would you put your guitar in water for a photoshoot?

If you take it out in the cold, I'd keep it in the case for a while first. That way the temp change is a little slower.

Snow is wet in Wisconsin.

Snow in the west is called powder for good reason - it's dry. Hard to imagine if you haven't experienced it, but trust me, it's hard to get wet in my neck of the woods. The guitar will be fine as far as wet is concerned, but taking it from a warm car or cabin/hotel and laying it on the cold snow could cause a number of other undesirable issues.

Mike Bloomfield came into the studio for a Dylan Session with his Telecaster covered in snow and banged it against a wall, knocking off the snow and plugged in.
Up here in The White Mountains we get THE WET SNOW. In The Foothills there's like two inches on the ground and when You climb up to my elevation
(1800 ft) there's about 1-2 feet depending on what get hit by The Sun.
I'd never put ANY thing in the snow except a drink or a beer.
Leaving a bottle of Gin in the snow when the temp goes to below zero is
an amazing thing. Gin doesn't freeze, must be all them "Fine Botanicals"!

Be careful with that. When I was living in Fairbanks, Ak a friend of mine had left a bottle of Grey Goose out in the snow for chilled shots. It was about -45F when he decided to take have some. A trip to the ER and a night in the hospital followed. The alcohol doesn't freeze, although it does get a bit syrup-y. It was way too cold for the human throat to handle.
