I'd say just offhand, that that's what your problem is

so after comparing whats going on inside my tele with EVERY other tele scheme i can find i realized that who ever had this guitar before me upgraded the input jack, the pots, and turned the three way switch upside down.....

so i figured it out myself, and its working pretty nice.....

here's a question:

does the soldering effect the tone?

I'll do some more research .........

Some Tele switches, like the Japanese Stewmac one, don't hook up the same as CRL or Oak switches. So that might be why it seems backwards.

I try to do good solder joints, and not use too much solder, because my feeling is that it can't bee good for your sound. But I've got absoluely zero as far as soldering training. I hear that Terry Downs has a good DVD on wiring guitars, that's probably well worth getting.

Helps to have a soldering station, with a wet sponge to clean the tip with, because if your soldering iron's tip isn't clean, your solder joints won't be very good.

QFT (especially that wet sponge part). And I'll add that a Weller dual temp, 260/200W gun is way overkill for guitar wiring and is proof that 'too much of a good thing' isn't always a good thing.

Soldering shouldn't affect the sound unless you have abnormally bad joints.

I was taught to *always* make a solid mechanical joint before soldering, and then to heat the work and let the solder wick into it. That way the solder works mostly as a glue to weld the work in place, and not to make the connection. When I do it that way I never have problems down the road.
