the truss rod's probably a "heel adjust".....look on the base of the neck just ahead of the neck P-up.

Glad yer happy with your Tele mate !

Great stuff Mad, enjoy it. The truss rod adjusts from the other end of the neck - nothing to worry about. The egg shaped thing is a piece of wood that plugs the hole that the rod was pushed through in the factory.

Post some pics - I'd like to see it!

Ah, sounds good. :)

I'll put some pics up tomorrow, I'm off to a partay in 20 minutes, so not really enough time to go and get the camera out and stuff...I'm currently listening to Syd Barrett and all too :P... Got The Madcap Laughs today...Very much like it.

But yea, I could do with a new amp methinks, once I get a Cube 15X (its on my list of things to get) it should sound a bit better than on my rubbishy 10 watt Squier... But yea, anyways, thanks for all the advice, people, pics will be up soooon!

It's fun when you can find a bargain, but this is what really counts-

I guess it looks a bit like this?

No problem - as the others have said, the truss rod adjusts at the heel end of the neck.

All the advice in the world couldn't guarantee the most important thing ever - that YOU like the guitar, and that it makes YOU happy.

I think it sounds like you've done pretty well on boths counts.....

Now.... looking forward to those pics!!!!.............

Yea, as I say, tomorrow :P I'll take a few shots of the scratches to show what I mean when I say its purely aesthetical, and as I say, I really like it, y'know, there's a mystique to used instruments...All manner of dramatic tales could be sung about its past, and wild "sX, drugs and rock'n'roll" tales of how it came to be in that shop and what not... Yea, I am happy :D.

Anyways, yea, I'm off now, see y'all tomorrow, and you'll get to see me with my tele :P

And since the advent of eBay, it turns out every guitar has an interesting (and valuable; but usually uncheckable) history...

Its late so I can't take any now, but yea, tomorrow there will be many :P I've already started writing music on it...I like having a decent electric partly because I can write music (unplugged) and not annoy the parents :P... Hope to do some interesting recordings before long :D

Anyways, yea, I am happy with it, its a really nice instrument... It doesn't look old/used at a glance, its like when you look close you can see the "battle scars" if you will. Yea, I know I'm over-dramatizing the history/character thing, but yea :D.

As for the ebay thing; aye, eBay, a rip off half the price of anywhere else! Everything's been used but in perfect condition (no matter how old) and grammar is a dirty word!

*Sighs*

Anyways, off to bed listening to Syd Barrett after writing out a little more tab-ness for a song I'm starting work on :P

Nighty night!

Also, he appreciates the need for sensible spelling and grammar and is a good communicator. This is something of a rarity aongst British youth nowadays!

Keep it up Mad.

Woop...Thanks for the praise, people! And, in all honesty I'd never really heard much Barrett before, just little bits and thought he was interesting, found The Madcap Laughs quite cheap at my favourite music store and figured it'd be worth a shot...I'm really liking it! I should probably listen to Pink Floyd a bit as well, but I've never gotten around to it...

As for the tele, I think I'm going to change the pick ups in a year or so, I would have anyway with a 50's probably and it looks like the bridge pick up's suffering a little oxidation (still sounds great at the moment though).

As for the dating, online it says 84-87 for E Japanese teles... Aaaand, judging from the number (97xxxx) I'm guessing it'll be '86 or '87... Ah well, vintage in a few years... As if I'd actually sell it :P.

Anyways, here are the pics! They're a bit massive though, sorry...

On second thought, how do I upload pictures :s... Sorry folks lol

Even better, go to the GALLERY and post pics there. Then they'll be available to link to other threads.

Hmm...I thought the electronics on Japanese ones were meant to be really good?
People always talk about the pots being smaller and the switches being cheap, but, I've got to tell you, I got own three Telecasters from Fender Japan and they've never given me any problem. (I do have some big, strapping American pots and switches that have gone a bit wanky on me.) This is all below the control plate, anyway. It's nothing you can see or hear.
