Bill Kirchens New Album Has Arrived
"Well they put six strings on a maple stick, stuck it on a slab of ash.
Sold one to Luther, threw in a pick, sent him out with Johnny Cash." ![]() "It was born at the junction of form and function, it's the hammer of the honky-tonk gods." Just got this today to listen to and am listening as I type. I'll have to post a review later. You can order it on Amazon. I saw him at a small club in Richmond, Va the night before Thanksgiving. Awesome!
He is the reason why I play telecaster. So much sound for just three guys. I have practicing ever since.... |

Apparently Bill doesn't even know it's out yet! It's not on his website, but it's one I'll be ordering as soon as I can.

As great as I think he is, I think his act goes over best in clubs instead of bigger venues. And I'm honestly not positive that there's a big enough audience for the kind of music he plays. Sure, we love him, but I doubt that he could sell enough tickets to fill bigger halls, which is what promotors are looking for in an act. Look at Commander Cody: he's even got a name that has decent recognition, but his band has been shrinking steadily and he's pulling smaller and smaller crowds.

Can't Wait and I Love the New Album Cover
Bill is just the best. The best guy. The best telecaster player I have ever seen (or when you get to that level there are lots of guys who just couldn't be much better) I am a lifelong fan and I told him so from the first time I was lucky enough to see him. He has changed my life. The man should be a huge star everywhere. He's awesome. I've been looking forward to the new record.

Nice Graphics to a Fine Album!!!
![]() ![]() Now that i've had a good chance to listen, I'd have to give it two thumbs up. Of course the title cut is destined to be a classic, some of the others songs Bill has been playing Live for alittle while now, such as Rocks into Sand and Get A Little Goner. Here's the song list; 1. Hammer of the Honky-Tonk Gods (BK) 2. Rocks into sand (BK) 3. Get a little Goner (BK, Sarah Brown, Louise Kirchen) 4. Skid Row in My Mind (Blackie Farrel) 5. Working Man (BK) 6. Soul Cruisin' (J.New) 7. Truth Be Told (S. Brown) 8. Devil with the Blue Dress (F.Long, W.Stevenson) 9. One More Day (BK) 10. Heart of Gold (T. Johnson) 11. If It's Really Got to be This Way (A. Alexander, D. Fritts, G, Nicholson) The band consists of; Nick Lowe on bass, backing vocals "Audie" Austin Deleone on keyboards, backing vocals Robert Trehorn on drums Paul Riley who probably did the engineering Geraint Watkins on keyboards. backing vocals Fiddle - Danny Levin In the 70's most of this line-up was playing in Marin County in a band called the Moonlighters. To think I lived down the street from where they were playing in the 70's (Sweetwater in Mill Valley, etc.) and don't remember ever seeing them, oh well. Joe New is in Marin also, probably the connection to the songwriter who gave them "Soul Cruisin" (I'm guessing that "J." is Joe). They recorded "I'm Gonna Put a Bar in the Back of My Car and Drive Myself to Drink" and "Seven Nights to Rock". Later find them with Nick Lowes "Impossible Birds". There is is a good collection of slower ballads, with Cindy Cashdollar playing steel on a few. Lot's of good harmonies with abit of Twang thrown in. Devil in the Blue Dress gets a fine treatment, real nice groove. P.S. Not a single Truck Driving Dieselbilly tune! |

I'll wait until next month to buy it from the man himself when he comes to Raleigh. We need to make that night a TDPRI night.

Not got it yet, but I KNOW it's a goodie!
I had the pleasure of being Bill's roadie (OK, I carried his guitar and amp in from the car) in 2005 when he was in the UK recording the CD, and I helped with the sound (OK, I carried the monitors in from car) at the Soul Cafe in Maidstone, UK.
He tried some of the new stuff that night (Bill was supporting the Hacienda Brothers (yeah, I know, Bill was supporting them I'm looking forward to seeing him in the summer at a Country Festival in France, so I hope to sample some more of his new stuff, plus a good dose of "the classics". The CD cover looks great and I just love the Ol' Coalburner. As soon as Bill sees me arrive at one of his gigs, he always invites me to have a play on the Ol' Coalburner as he knows anyone from the TDPRI are total gear heads!! Great guy! My sort of music!
